Talking South Beach Ladies of Substance

Hello,

Let me introduce myself.

I am Windsong. I am 52, married, and have a conure named Tonyie.

I have been posting in a journal here for a few days now. Something that I have NEVER done before.

I was looking for a support thread for the South Beach Diet.

So, I thought that I would start one.
If this is not okay, PLEASE let me know and I will cease immediately.

LADIES of SUBSTANCE, connotes many things.
Girth, for one.
But here it will stand for VALUE.

Value of self.

What I hope we can share is insights, humor, menu plans, tips, accountability, success and general friendship.

I started the SBD at 168.
But, I started another diet at 190.

My stats are:

Beginning weight from 2001 190
South Beach Weight July 14, 2003 168
South Beach Weight NOW 137

My motto is:

Health is my goal weight loss is my gift.

Hope to hear from you DAILY,
Windsong

Talking Thursday

Here it is Thursday at the Beach.

How was your Wednesday?

I find that planning helps me THINK and DO.

I am striving to eat fruit. Something I usually don't enjoy.

So far, I am eating bananas and apples.

I know we aren't suppose to have nanners, but....I like this fruit and it doesn't raise my cravings.
I wish we could have raisins as I do like them as well.

Let me know what fruit YOU eat and any tips.

Have a great day on the Beach.

Health and Happiness,
Windsong

i actually have yet to add any fruits, or carbs back in. I am thinking i will start next week... I basically am staying an extra week on phase one. The first fruit i look foward to enjoying again are strawberries! Yummy. All berries are supposed to be great for south beach, which is great because i have a small strawberry patch and a gooseberry bush.
My head is aching already, darn. I get these very mild headaches daily...
Darn that caffeine and the hold it has on me.......
LOL... off to run some errands, looks like it is going to be one beautiful day here in NY.

Bananas are pretty carb hefty for the nutrition you get out of them. I would try berries and melon first. I eat mine with cottage cheese and vanilla extract a lot of the time but that might be an aquired taste. Lately apricots have been the love of my life although I am pregnancy driven at the moment so my cravings shift from one thing to another. Smoothies are a great way to get in that fruit as well if it's not something you particularly love on it's own. I typically will use 1 cup of soymilk (you could use the carb countdown or skim, buttermilk or whatever you would like), 4 oz of yogurt (plain or flavored will do, but if you don't use flavored you might need a sprinkle of splenda) and 1/2 a cup of frozen/fresh fruit. Blend in a blender and add ice cubes until you get a thick milkshake consistancy.

Nina is having a weigh in day.
I am happy to say that I am down 1 more pound.

You know you have to be aware.
Not only of what you are eating, but why.

I went out to eat yesterday, and I had things that weren't on my plan, but I feel good about it because I made GOOD choices.

I allowed myself things, but in moderation.

I appreciate the fact that I am IN CONTROL and I am the only one that can make my day a good one, or one that I gave in.

You need to have support, and I am grateful for all of you who are posting here.

Have a happy and healthy day,
Windsong

Hi I am new on SB, actually moving from atkins. The thing is, I have been losing on atkins but the thought of eating like that for the rest of my life is troubling me. One thing that bothers me is that when I get to enjoy alittle of bit of ice cream or chocolate which I love than the scale shifts up, Arghh. I just bought SB book and the good fat bad fat one, I hope to finish reading them this week and stick with it. I plan to follow BFL exercise plan, so my question is, has anyone of you ladies gone this routine and can you give me some suggestions, thanks.
