Default Nutritional/Supplement Question

I have purchased a bottle of CO-Q10 that has 110 mg of rice powder per capsule. That's approx. 1/10 of a gram. Is that something to be concerned about. I only take 1 per day.

Figure this is a question for Natruska....

Thanks in advance for your responses.

hi Sookie,

No, don't worry about it.

Many pills use a starch of some kind as filler/carrier ... often cornstarch or maltodextrin; sometimes a fiber like cellulose or methylcellulose. Rice powder and rice dextrins are being used more often due to less allergic potential than corn by-products.

If you're taking a load of other supplements and pills, you might consider counting a gram per day for the lot of 'em. Many folks do, just to be sure.

Thanks for your answer. I was nearly catatonic thinking I'd been blowing it all this time....

However, supplements containing dextrose and derivatives, mannitol, etc. should be avoided, correct?

As much as possible, do try to avoid those, yes. Check the label for a statement such as "contains no sugar or starch" etc.

For the few supplements (and prescription pills for that matter) which do contain unavoidable traces of carb ... just estimate a gram (or two, if you take a LOAD of supps/pills) and budget for it in your daily total.
