Question symptoms of low thyroid

I'm curious...what were the main symptoms that caused you to get your thyroid checked? I am a person not loosing, low body temp, constipation, tired early eve, headaches. To me these are all explainable. Are these the kind of symptoms anyone else has or had. I don't have the dry skin or hair falling out. I'm looking for some kind of answer to my weight loss problem. I am seeing my Dr. in April for a physical

My symptoms included:

unlilateral swelling in the right foot and calf
the inability to lose weight
sleeping 12-18 hours a day

I have always had a slightly lower body temperature, so that didn't ring any bells for me.

The doctor had a hard time zeroing in on my problem, though. My T4 and T3 levels were fine-but my TSH was a bit high.

When I was first diagnosed with hypothyroidism, here are the symptoms I had:

mind-numbing fatigue

I had to take a nap everyday

My body temp would plummet for no reason, once it went down to 94 degrees.

I had terrible pain, cramping and heaviness in my upper leg muscles.

Brain fog

I never experienced hair fall-out or constipation. Have always had dry skin. Everyone is different. Judging from your symptoms, I would guess you are hypo. I am having trouble losing weight, too, always have. It is very frustrating.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the replys. I have gained about 30 lbs in less than a year for now apparent reason. Now having gone back to induction(i've been on this woe for 4 years) for 3 months and not loosing anything but a couple pounds I am just starting to wonder if this might be my problem. Did you ever feel full and bloated maybe even gassy? Did you gain more weight than usual around your middle. These are a few other new things I have noticed.
thanks again

I definately carry most of my excess weight right on my gut. I look like I am pregnant. Butt and thighs a little bit. From the knees down, and shoulders up, I look thin. Very aggravating. I suffer from candida/leaky gut syndrome, hypothyroid and fibromyalgia. I think most of my bloating and heaviness in my gut is from the candida. You might want to read up on it and see if it applies to you.

If you go under the low carb technical & health forum, there is a thread called Candida/IBS. Open it up and at the top there is a sticky containing many helpful links about candida.

I went for YEARS with it not ringing abell with my docs..
The skin
The Hair
The alarm couoldn't even wake me in the morning
The unGODLY constipation, bloating, gas
The brain fog (I was close to screwing up my job)
and ON AND ON AND ON!!

Thyriod testing is very common..I have found ALOT of ppl need to ASK for it before your Dr. will get a clue.

When you are at it a glucose pannel is also helpful..Thryroid can be a symptom of alot of other issues..Keep Reasearching!!
