Congrats!

I believe Atkins calls for maintenance during pregnancy. Talk to your doc!

I echo that. Basically you simply eat low glycemic - don't worry about the number of carbs -- just eat low glycemic -- as much fat, protein, and all the veggies and fruits you want. Think natural foods (plants and animals) that you can grow.

there are some great prenatal vitamins. I would also highly recommend omega 3s. Lots of studies about how omega 3s help mom and baby.

I would recommend walking for exercise.

Congrats

And don't forget the vitamin D, calcium and magnesium as well as folic acid. All are very important for your baby's health.

If you're asking what supplements you should take I wouldn't vary from a good supplement program. Many prenatal vitamins have been tested and a concern was rasied that they don't contain enough nutrients for optimum development. Logical as even though prenatal vitamins are horse pills, they don't compare to the size of the pill that would result from a good supplement program.

Just go out as soon as possible and get yourself some prenatal vitamins, they have all your vitamins in them.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!!!!!

I agree with others that a LC maintenance plan is a good idea. Pre-natals are a good choice to ensure you get enough folic acid. Also the omegas, calcium etc will be beneficial.

Lots of water, fresh air, exercise and healthy high quality LC foods.

Take care, Julie

No, this is my third... but most of my weight gain came with my second (now almost 6 )... so, since I was pretty healthy before I just tried to be sensible... but feel like I'm starting in such a bad place with all this extra weight this time

Definitely check out the ladies on the pregnancy and parenting board here, lots of support there. I made attempts to low carb while PG, but the first 3 months were impossible due to nausea and then after trying a month of low carb I gained 10 pounds. So the next month I ate whatever I felt like and gained 10 pounds. So I just pigged out the whole time and gained 60 lbs in 9 months. But the ladies I talked to on the forum were doing really well and gaining very little. Good luck and I hope everything goes well.
