Default Very Confused - Fitday

I am very confused, I bought some macadamia nuts today and it said on the packet 1.2 carbs per 25g and I ate 60g which = 2.8g but when I put it into fitday it said 7g carbs for 2 oz which = 58g - does anyone know why, I did the same with Brazils yesterday and had the same problem.

Also when I put the cheese in I expected the fat content to go up but it went down instead - Iam VERY VERY confused?!!!

Bez

hi Bez,

I double-checked fitday, and indeed ... 1 oz. macadamia nuts are 3.6g carbs / 2.5g fiber. It would appear that the manufacturer of the nuts you purchased has already subtracted the fiber from the total carbs, to give the count of 1.1-1.2g.

So, the fitday count is in agreement, give or take a few tenth's of a gram .. if you look at the "Calories Eaten Today" chart in your fitday food journal, you'll see the breakdown of total carbs and fiber. Fitday also subtracts the grams of fiber before calculating your calories eaten for the day.

Not sure about the cheese, maybe different fat contents between US and UK? You can always enter your favourite cheese as a Custom food, and use the nutrient counts on the label. I do that often, I find that the tinned salmon and tuna I buy are lower in fat and higher protein according to the labels than what fitday has listed.

hope this helps ..

Doreen

Thanks Doreen,

Most of the Cheese I buy has a 0.1g carb content so I think we might be luckier than you with our cheeses. The cheese thing confused me as I'd forgotten to add it and when I did add it I expected the fat content to go up but it went down 1% and I felt that it must be wrong.

Thanks again,

Bez

Hi Bez

I had exactly the same problem with the Macadamia Nuts and Fitday. In the UK, our labels list Fibre and Carbs seperatly. So, if you don't deduct your fibre from the carbs, you normally have to add the 2 figures. Fitday does go over the top with the counts sometimes ( you will see, that it insists on Bacon to have carbs - in the US it has, here it normally hasn't).
Your best bet is to enter foods into custom and work from there. I know it is a lot of work, but it helps, especially as our labels give you the amount of carbs per 100g, and Fitday usually measures stuff in cups ( no idea how much 1 cup of fried egg is ).

Good luck
Sabine

PS.: I will by a carb counter later in Sainsburys. I hope it is produced in the UK and doesn't just copy the US list. Then I can help out if you are stuck again
