Default ALA question

Hi everyone!

I hope someone can help me with ALA.

Do you take it before and after meals?

Does it get you into ketosis faster?

how much of it do you take per day?

(I have 300 mg capsules by the way)

I am currently on a low carb diet. Not any particular diet, but I am eating low carb foods with some days of eating regular. Mostly weekends. But I am trying to get out of that, hehe! So, is it okay to take during low carb days?

Is it better to use this supplement on regular carb days?

Any advice, thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!!

Hi

I've just got to give you some straight advice here.

The low carb diet is something you either do or don't do. The reason is that it works by changing the way the body both handles the food we eat and by the way in which we get energy for doing the things we do. (more details on how it works elsewhere on the forum)

By continually chopping and changing, your body can never settle into the right routine and you'll keep going in and out of ketosis- if you get there at all.

That in itself will mean you are putting yourself through unnecessary discomfort and have to go over the same ground again and again.

Please do be encouraged to start and continue in following the plan to the letter as it really is the easiest way.

As for the ALA. you don’t need it if you follow the plan.

Regards,
No Bun

Thank's for your reply!

so, ALA is more for someone who is not doing low carb?

I heard it is a good anti oxident regardless of being on a diet or no diet. I still would like to take it even if it is just for the anti oxident benefits.

I do appreicate your advice, it made me do a lot of thinking.

would it still be safe to take it while doing low carb?

thanks again!

Default It's an expensive supplement

I do LC, and I take ALA, and I can't say for sure I've seen a difference. It does help stabilize blood sugars and it's one more anti-oxidant and I may leave it off the list when I run out to see what happens, because my supplement bill is way high. If you're not sure about which plan you're following and which supplements you might need, I'd suggest saving it until later.

ALA is an EXCELLENT anti-oxidant and well worth taking it for those properties alone, IMO. R-ALA is even much better than plain ALA (which is actually S-ALA).

While in ketosis, you do not need a great deal of it, 1 300mg cap of it would be plenty or 100mg of R-ALA a day.

Here is a post where I've posted info of R-ALA previously:
