Default Lollies!

I have been eating these lollies over the past few weeks for when I am in need of that sugar hit.

I buy them here in NZ at The Warehouse, Candyland or any Supermarket.
Ricci is the brand. They are soft chewy lollies come in all flavours Caramel, Strawberry, Mint etc and have less than 1 gm carb per serve which is about 2 lollies.

Ricci also have hard bolied sweets which remind me of the glucose barley sugars, they also come in a different flavours, lemon, lime, orange, rasberry, etc and have 0.1gm carbs and sugars per serve. The natural sweetener is splenda.

Tonight I found Equal sugar free Caramel chews and strawberry chews with a soft creamy centre and are also less than 1gm carbs.

I was wondering if Equal is ok?

Equal is another brand name for aspartame (see my reply to your question about NutraSweet).

Yes thanx for that, looks like I will have to keep away from the Equal sweets.

Even though Ricci Chews are made with Splenda they are still over 90% sugar alcohols - isomalt and sorbitol plus polydextrose. Also one lolly is a serve not two. The carb count of less than 1% is very deceptive...you have to count sugar alcohols as carbs.

Actually they're a YMMV thing. Some people have no problems with them - and therefore don't need to count them as carbs - while others find they cause their weight loss to stop.

For more information on sugar alcohols, have a look in Low Carb Tips on the orange bar at the top of the screen.

You’re one of the lucky ones. My DH also seems to be able to eat these without too many consequences but they give me stomach cramps. The worst part is when he unwraps one the lavish licorice chews…..I can smell them even if I’m in a different part of the house. It drives me crazy because I love the smell of licorice!!
