Does anyone know the Carb count in Vegetable Glycerine? Also, if you have any good o bad things to say about it.

Thanks,

Glycerine is required to appear as a carbohydrate on food labels although it's not technically a carb. Because it's not a carbohydrate, it doesn't cause a rise in insulin when consumed. Glycerine has more calories than carbs though, 4.3 per gram, and unlike sugar alcohols, it is quickly absorbed.

It's mostly used in protein and sports nutrition bars to keep them soft and moist. It may also be used in frozen confections to keep the texture smooth.

For low-carbers, it's a ymmv thing (your mileage may vary). Most people find they can consume a glycerine-containing product occasionally with no effect on ketosis or weightloss stalls. Other people aren't so fortunate, and find that they may even experience a rise in blood sugar .. likely indirect due to stimulating the sweet tooth.

Doreen

Default Vegetable Glycerine in Liquid Stevia Extract

Hi Doreen,

If you remember a little while back I posted uner the title "Stevia & Stevia Extract help" and I was asking about Stevia and the taste of it, etc. You mentioned that it had a really bad taste, and I couldn't agree with you more. I had bought 2 different kinds of Stevia (one in packets & another that contained 18% alcohol). To narrow it down to one word.. BLAH! Then I bought some Stevia liquid extract from Loblaws made by Herbal Select and to be honest, it tastes really good (even in coffee). It contains the Stevia extract, Vegetable Glycerine & Water. I know that the Stevia has no carbs but just wasn't sure about the Vegetable Glycerine. I have emailed the company to see if they would send me the nutritional information on the extract but still have not heard from them. I guess we'll see soon (if they respond).

Once again thanks for your help .

Andy
