Default Triathlon training and NEW...

Hi all,

I have recently starting trying LC'ing (about 3months) and have lost some weight (about 8 pounds). I am also training for a Triathlon this summer, and am concerned that I am not getting enough carbs for my training. For example, yesterday I went for a 27 mile, hilly, bike ride, and only took water....I wanted to take a water/gatorade mix, but didn't. I felt, hot and tired, and wonder if having the carbs (via a drink) would have been the right thing to do?

Does anyone have any suggestions or personal stories re: the same? I would greatly appreciate ANY help you could give me!

Thanks!

I'm no pro at this but can take a stab at. I believe if you're doing serious training like for a triathlon you can take in carbs prior to the workout (not an extreme amount though). Most of the carbs will be burned as a result.

Also sweating will cause you to loose a lot of sodium so you may want to find a drink that is low carb but has sodium.

You might want to check out the general exercise forum to see what others who are training are doing.

Thanks for the info...I think you are right.....maybe a lower carb/with protein drink before and during a long workout would be a good idea.....I'll give it a try.

I'll second the suggestion to check out the exercise forums. I know there are some runners hanging out there and they would probably have advice cfor you re: nutrition and endurance training. Link: http://forum.lowcarber.org/forumdis...?s=&forumid=112

Also, I know ysabella (another forum person) is training for a Danskin Triathlon later this summer. You might want to pop over to her journal at http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthre...15&pagenumber=1

Good luck!
