I have to laugh about the coke spoon thing. My first real job was at McDonalds. Those spoons used to disappear like crazy and nobody knew why. Then the urban legend started as to their use. Between that and other issues - plastic, easily broke and could hurt people, etc. etc. they were replaced. Too funny

Just gotta comment on the "Coke spoon" ...I think one of the most disgusting things is people who have the "Coke spoon" Pinky nail!!! PEOPLE THAT IS NOT SEXY!!!I used to work with a guy who was 20 yrs older than me and he had a Pinky nail on his right hand that was a inch long and it was sooooo nasty looking ..All I could think of when I saw it was him jamming it up his filthy nostril... I refused to shake hands with him, might get something Ajax can't take off!!

Default Splenda and Malto-Dextrin (Industrial Processed Super Sugar)

Splenda will give you a HUGE sugar spike as it is 95% Malto-Dextrin
or some variant there of. The Glycemic Index is higher than Table
Sugar yet the FDA allows them to claim zero calories based on one
of their wink and nod relief policies to not unduly burden the industry
(I think is was less than 7 calories could be counted as zero).

Why it has not been fatal to Diabetics is an unknown.

5% is sucralose (super sweetener with no calories).

The only use I can see for Splenda (maltodextrin) is to carry
around 12 packets with about 2oz. of Sweet Granola from
Trader Joes.

I over did the fasting thing once and got a good instance of
Hypoglycemia. So maltodextin is part of my Emergency
Hypoglycemia kit as it raises blood sugar faster than any
substance known to mankind.

In all fairness I have not checked Stevia for its influencing Blood Sugar.
Years ago I blew 50 or so test strips isolating what was
causing a spike in my blood sugar. It turned out to be splenda.

It took a number of years (I asked a lot of M.D.s, etc.) what in splenda
was spiking the blood sugar. Finally hit on the malto-dextrin (Industrial sugar
that is put in a lot of processed food).

Lots of lowcarbers get hold of liquid sucralose for this reason.

Not for everyone-Splenda does not give me a big blood sugar spike and has never been able to pull me out of a hypoglycemia attack. You must be very sensitive to the maltodextrin.

Wow!

If you do not mind me asking does Table Sugar, Cane Sugar, Corn Syrup
or Fructose ?

How about Carbs if you are in Mild ketosis ? Recommendations (that I have confidence
in) vary from 30 - 90g.

I can get kicked out of Mild ketosis in as little as 45g or 90g depending on
my physical activity and glycogen stores (the later depends on physical
activity over the interval of carb grams uptake - I think).

I don't check or depend on ketosis-I am hypothyroid and don't thrive on very low carb. Sugars do pull one out of hypoglycemia and I carry glucose tablets or the liquid shots formulated for this. I usually try some protein like some meat and cheese first to see if helps before I take the glucose tablets. A lot of people are very sensitive to food additives like maltodextrin, msg etc and it affects their blood sugars or give them other adverse symptoms with their guts or headaches.

Hey, Thank You Very Much !

This all makes sense as the dosed sugar spike is only going to last for a short while and then a carb dose should take over from there (from my dietary ketosis hypo-glicemic event in 100+ degree weather).

Meat and cheese are a good test, but during my event I was on the verge of passing out (in Whole Foods) what a scene that would have made (shudder). So I went quick and dirty sugar and carbs (which is kind of a funny combo to find at that venue).

Does your Endocrinologist have any thoughts on the variation of response from person to person ?

My guess (limited as it is) would be some people have more specific sugar receptors than others Or sensitivity might be an acquired trait from ingesting to much of a particular substance (developing hyper-sensitivity and/or allergy).

I love stevia in my herbal tea.

Should i be limiting my stevia intake...????

The teas are all caffeine free, and i mix and match them i have three different kinds, so i may have country peach passion, then next cup I might add a honey vanilla chamomile, next cup add wild berry...so buy three pm I have about 4 teabags...and i add one packet of stevia to each cup.

I have not seem to have had the "I wanna eat" since i switched off of truvia.

Thoughts???
