Default mouth guards

Okay, I am having 'issues' with the concept of wearing a mouth guard. It is fairly comfortable, but it makes my mouth DRY.

Is there anything I can do to make this better? or is it something that I'm just going to have to deal with? would a different (more expensive) mouth guard help? I don't get enough water breaks to help the dry mouth... of course I'd need one about every 5 or ten minutes to make it better.

Thanks!!!

What sport is this for? I used the Shock Doctor Ultra and found it didn't dry my mouth out, probably because it was small enough that I could still breath through my nose.

This is for roller derby. I really can't tell you why it makes my mouth dry I don't think I'm breathing through my mouth more.. but I can't say that for sure.

Maybe the guard just forces you to keep your mouth open more, so your membranes lose H20 by convection? Also, just having something in your mouth can make you drool a little, which can evaporate quickly when air is going in out in out during exertion. I would just try a different guard that you can easily close your mouth with it in.

Oh, and thanks for the warm memories of watching Ralphie Valladares on TV back in the 80s
