Default I have never been more excited!

I just finished reading the Body For Life book I bought today, and OMG I am soooooooo psyched! What a good read too! ...So motivationing and positive.

I went out today and bought my plates (already had the bars) and an adjustable bench; I have a larger machine as well which I'm hopefull will add some variety (it's as new as it was 10 years ago, when we bought it for a clothing rack !!! )

I already had my upper body workout today just bringing the fool weights downstairs...trip after trip........geez, my arms are burning just from that! This is going to be one heck of a challenge

The only thing that concerns me is his insistence on low fat, and I must confess after 7 months of low carbing, I thought I'd come to terms with the whole "low fat" argument, but strangely enough it began to worry me all over again.

Do you all still eat high fat, like cheese, and chicken wings and cream and the like while BFL'ing? Or, have you become more "lean" in your saturated fat-protein choices? I'm not planning on doing any of the carbs that he suggests, but merely using the vegetables and berries and such as carb choices, but I'm wondering if any others have found modifying BFL to fit with low carbing helpful, hindering, or what-have-you to the BFL challenge.

So glad to be with you guys on this great experience, I cant' wait to begin!

Muse

Default Hello Muse

Hello Muse and welcome to Body for Life

I just started on Monday and I love it already, first off I'm spending far less time exercising. I was spending 30 minutes on cardio and 45 on weights Mon. thru Thur. and another 30 minutes on Sat., I love having the extra time.

As far as the low fat goes, I have no doubt it works for some people, just not me. I spent most of my life eating low fat and gaining weight. I just can't do it, it's not an option for me. I always feel so hungry while eating low fat. when I eat low carb I feel so much better and have more energy.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress. It's so inspiring to see others progressing

Hey there Lady Don't worry about the low fat aspect of the program. We have successfully done BFL w/ LC modifications. I suggest you copy out the sticky at the top of this forum for reference. Also, have a look through the following Journals: Divan Dani, Homegirl, Bsyane, Marlaine, mine and Bluefizzure. You'll get menu ideas and fat/carb/protein breakdowns. LC and BFL is doeable and it works.

While you will need to raise carbs slightly, as we talked about yesterday, you do it in a way that is comfortable for you. Berries, more veggies, some fruit, whole milk, live culture yoghurt. No need to cut the fat or add in any grains. It will be trial and error at first, but you've got the advantage of having a few of us go this route before you. Feel free to copy where you like

Can't wait to follow your progress!
Nat

Muse.....

Hi there. It's great to have you joining us in doing BFL!

I thought I'd just stop in here and say that I'm doing just great with keeping to LC and higher fat during BFL. Today I actually have been craving fat so indulged myself as much as I could. I figure if I'm craving it, there is a reason.

Looking forward to following your progress at BFL!

Marlaine

Nat said something about Bill Phillips, perhaps, catering to the mainstream in his low-fat approach. This is supported by a number of things. First, he himself talks about the negative roll that carbs play in our health and, without saying so in so many words, implies the need to keep insulin firmly in check if significant fat is to be burned. More telling, I was visiting the BLG and EAS sites and looking at their offerings and they have several products that come in a low-carb version (I ordered one). I've checked the on-line nutrition label and each serving has 9g of carbs - and there are no hidden carbs. So the fact that he offers it implies that LC works with BFL - unless, of course, he is just catering to a certain customer segment. But the most telling is that in the product descriptions for the LC variants, it is stated that they are for the "true fitness enthusiast" and they target those that are "serious about health, training and diet".

I've submitted a question requesting their recommendations for pursuing BFL via LC. It will be interesting to see what they say.
