OK..I have been running off and on for a couple of years..Not like a pro-long distance runner..more for the "high" I get..to get into shape and to loose weight..I have been doing our local Police Department run they have every May..I have done 3 years of the 3.5 mile then did the 10K last year..Now I am "crazy" and signed up for the Shiprock Marathon here..I am only doing the half-marathon..My intentions are to go out do my best..not worry about my time or to actually place in the event..I have a couple of teachers running w/me..I am averaging about 5-7 mile runs close to 3-4 times a week. Right now my allergies/sans the name are horrible..so having to use the treadmill till everything blooms..geeesh..Then hoping to get outside..The race is May 5th..any comments or ideas would be helpful..I usually drink a protein shake (eas) before I run..what should I do the morning of the race..
I can't give you much advice as I can run 5k and not up to that level but hopefully someone else can on here....
I want to up my running and sign up for something to aim for, I know about that 'high' you talk about, I am very grumpy if I do not get out!good luck with the training, how long til the race?

I forgot to update with the results of my 5K...I beat my earlier time by over 4/12 minutes (36:16)! I'm so much happier with my performance in this race. I really feel like that is a better run than at my first one. Of course, now I'm going to do another one in about 2 weeks - I'm addicted!
Ruthy - I feel the same way - I run at lunch at least once a week and I get very short with my coworkers if I don't get my run in. I'm just not enough of a morning person to get up early and run yet.
Linda - I don't have a lot of advice for a 10K since 5K is my longest run to date. I'm hoping to do a 10K in Spetember though. I think as long as you're getting in at least 20 miles a week, you should be fine just to finish. Good luck!
