After reading this thread I decided I can go ahead and enjoy one of those foods I was missing! I went to Trader Joes today and picked up a quart of the store brand. I mixed a little DaVinci strawberry to perk up the flavor and just sat back and enjoyed it...

Problem is, how to enter it into FitDay?

I want to be able to see my carb count right away, without having to remember "oh yeah, I had yogurt that day." For now I'm thinking about fudging by adding 7 to the fiber column, since I don't actually track it except as it relates to ECC anyhow, so that I get a more accurate reckoning.

Default FITDAY

I entered it as a custom food and used 4 carbs.. it took it.

I've noticed that sometimes it will take it with no problems and some times I have to "fudge" the calories.

Post Thanks for the info!

I have not had yogurt in 3 months. I'm going grocery shopping today and can't wait to get to the yogurt aisle.

Thanks again

What I got from reading this thread and then following up on some of the references:

1. Look for full-fat whole-milk yogurt, NOT "lowfat" or "nonfat".
2. Plain, unflavored yogurt is OK, not any of the flavored varieties. (If you want flavoring, you can add it yourself in the form of a small amount of fruit or SF syrup)
3. Active cultures will be listed somewhere on the container. At minimum there should be Lactobacillus Acidopholus and Lactobacillus Bifidus listed as active cultures. If more are there, better for you.

It seems to be the concensus that if all three of these conditions are met, one can enjoy as much as one cup per day, and you only need add 4 grams ECC to your daily intake.

Works for me.

I eat the Liberty Med. as well. I'm just gonna eat it for the same reasons as you. I can't imagine going back to 'normal' yogurt....B

I cant seem to find SF plain yogurt around here. So, I bought the Blue Bunny SF strawberry with Splenda and 1 cup has 18 carbs....does anyone know what I would count for that? Since it has 4 more maybe I should count 8 carbs?

I hear ya! I'm not much of a yogurt-lover, but the 10% fat yogourt is out of this world and doesn't taste sour in the least. But it didn't stop me from e-mailing the company with my complaint (and a link) about the Marketplace article.

Here's the link if you want to voice your opinion:

I just read through all this and am excited about being able to add something to my foods that's different. The only yogurt I've ever had before is the type that's like ice-cream, like at the mall. I don't like any type of flavorings like strawberry or anything. So, hypothetically, how would I make the yogurt with the vanilla flavor like I've had before, or is that what it tastes like anyway? Sorry for naivate', but I've never had any store-bought yogurt.

Thanks guys!

Default Yogurt and some questions (atkins)

Thank you. I love yogurt and this is a god send to me. I am on my th day of induction and have been feeling so sick- hot to cold, hot flashes, really weak. shakiness, headache, and stomach upset. I have been tempted to give up or to add a gob of carbs. ARe the things I just listed common symptoms of carb withdrawal? Seems pretty severe to me. I have been out of it for the last three days.I have also been adding vegies but probably not enough. I don't want to over due the carbs and get the 6 lbs I have lost, back. So I will control myself on the yogurt.

Thanks,
Marti

I too, went to the store this morning, after reading through this thread.

Could not find ANY no fat yogurts

I did find Cascade Fresh - that has 8 active cultures

It listed:
20 grams of carb
16 sugars (that can't be good)
no fiber

This is probably not an acceptable brand, am I right?
