White wine vinegar is quite mild, and should be okay. Do you have cider vinegar? My choice would be to mix it 50:50 with cider vinegar; in fact, the next time I make this I'm planning to use all cider vinegar. (I'm not a big fan of malt vinegar , sorry Wa'il)

IMO, cider vinegar is best with the curry flavours. Also the cheese used for the top should be a mild bland type; strong aged cheeses might not go well with curry.

Good luck, and keep us posted how you like it

I tried it with balsamic vinegar- but dialled back the amount to maybe 1/4c or less. It was good. I have made this recipe twice to rave reviews...I have also subbed cream cheese for cottage cheese and it worked just as well.

Terrific!

I tried this tonight and it was fabulous. I was skeptical, but the flavours blend and mellow really nicely. I can't wait for lunch tomorrow. I bet it's even better the next day.

Has anyone made this the regular way ... putting the faux potato mixture on the top? Please report back if you have. I'm drooling just thinking about being able to have Shepherd's Pie again.

I usually double the recipe and make it in a 13X9 pan. This is one dish DH (and I) don't mind eating several days in a row as leftovers.

hi Norma June

It would work just fine to put the mashed cauliflower mixture on top. The unique thing is, by putting the mashed cauli on the bottom, as in the original recipe, all of the juices and savoury flavours from the meat mixture flow down and 'soak into" it, which adds an extra Ooomph. The mozzarella slices on top will keep the meat mixture moist.

If you do try it the "non-inverted" way, please post how it came out and if you (& family) enjoyed it

is that curry powder (Indian) or curry paste (Thai) - I know I could choose either - but which is intended? curry powder?

6 thin slices of mozzarella
1 jalapeño, thinly sliced
2 Tbsp tomato paste
Curry to taste
Sea slat to taste
Cilantro and herbs to taste
Cayan pepper to taste

Cook the grated cauliflower with cottage cheese and salt on low heat for 1/2 hour until mashed and soft, blend well. Place at the bottom of a loaf pan. You can use a hand mixer to soften it.

Sauté onions and garlic with the red pepper and jalapeño, add beef, paste, salt, curry and vinegar. Cook for 15 minutes until thick and juicy. Drain excess liquid, if any.

Add on top of the cauliflower in the loaf pan. Top with slices of mozzarella.

Place in pre-heated oven at 350 F for 20-25 minutes until top is golden brown.

Enjoy.

This sounds sooo good. I'm going to try it today...I might use cream cheese instead of cottage though. I will post back my opinion.

I made this yesterday with a beef roast that I had cooked earlier with peppers so it was already prepped. It was wonderful. I will do it again for sure. My non lc dd and lc dh and I loved it. Anne
Not a curry fan so left it out and used 1/2 of the cottage cheese (1/4c.) and 1/4 c. cream cheese.
