My main focus is meat, meat, meat. THAT is first and foremost. The veggies are extras, sort of.

Ditto. Meat is my base. My meat-base eliminates unreasonable hunger.

Meat/dairy base for me. So I guess instead of plant based, my diet is animal based.

Nuts come in second place, as my breakfast is always 18 raw unblanched almonds.

I would never have dreamed I had a nuts & seeds problem... but I do. Ditching the pumpkin seeds and almond flour has led to another improvement in my condition.

But I can't complain: cheese, fruit, and chocolate are still on it

Lol, as nut meats are the base for my LC sweets......better to avoid nuts aka lc sweets for me.
As for shelled nuts, One leads to another.

Nuts tend to be an occasional inclusion for me, but never as snacks. If I eat nuts, it's usually at the end of a meal, meat-based of course. I can better control quantity when I've consumed a good portion of protein, and I don't do snacks at any other time of the day.

Me, looking at 6 oz container of nuts in the store: "Oh look, it's single serving package of nuts!"

Me, looking at 12 oz container of nuts in the store: "Oh look, it's a single serving package of nuts!"

Me, looking at 1 lb container of nuts in the store: "Oh look, it's a single serving package of nuts!"

Me, looking at a 2 lb container package of nuts in the store: "Hmm, I wonder if I could get 2 servings out of this?"

That's really only slightly exaggerated - I definitely have a portion control problem with nuts.

I still remember reading Dr. Atkins book at the beginning and him advising "a small child's handful" of nuts as portion control.

And I thought, "Yes, if they are running away from me at the time."

Nuts might be a good maintenance food. I'll deal with that when I get there. Right now, meat meat meat. Chicken seems to be magical.

I can eat nuts, but I can't eat chicken or egg yolks. We all have our thing.

By cutting out chicken and egg yolks my bursitis and arthritis disappeared. The arachidonic acid is inflammatory.

Being low-carb/keto giving those two up was sad.

But before going on the arthritis/bursitis diet, I couldn't walk two blocks without sitting or drive a care without an ice block behind my hip. Now I can walk 4 miles at a good clip with no pain and the only thing I use the ice pack for is keeping food cold in a cooler.

BTW, just to clarify my intentions on the Carnivore/Omnivore thing.

There are people who follow a carnivore diet, and eat nothing but meat. If a person who eats mostly meat by some plant food calls himself/herself a carnivore, how do we differentiate between the two?

All humans are omnivores, in that, they can eat either/or.

Those that choose to eat only vegetables call themselves - vegetarian

Those that choose to eat only meat call themselves - carnivore

Personally what someone chooses to eat is their own d%&n business! LOL

But back on track to the OP- I do try to plan my meals around meat. My husband doesn't like low-carb eating. So, needless to say, I struggle to avoid all the goodies he likes. However, I make the meals, so we eat what I make generally.

I admit I love my nuts but do find it hard not to OD on them, so it’s best I avoid them as much as possible. Though my new passion has been barukas nuts! I love them but don’t know if they are an issue for me or not. So far so good.

But I’d be seriously bummed if I had to give up cheese and chocolate. Though this whole thread has me pondering what my own “base” might be. A few months ago, when I was trying to shake up my eternal stall at the beginning of Covid shutdown, I did go almost totally carnivore for a while. My weight went down a teeny bit (like a half pound every couple weeks).

But then the weight came off way faster when I added in fasting, so I began to add back a few more carbs as I’m not actually all that fond of meat. So I still eat it but not even sure what my base is. I probably eat more eggs and cheese.

My base is beef and pork - no chicken, no eggs, no vegetables except an occasional salad - either Cesar or Greek
I do eat cheddar cheese after my meal
I do eat nuts - preferably pecans but occasionally macadamias or walnuts - always pre-portioned - never just out of the bag
No longer have arthritic pain
