Default Costco Must Haves

Well, not sure these are all Must Haves, but that is what the Trader Joe's thread is titled.
A Keto at Costco video from Ask Nurse Cindy popped up https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKtRhsKlGGc and a request from a friend in IRL, so updated my list and am posting it here.
I hope that others add their favorite foods and deals.
I did look for waxed paper pre-cut squares, but no waxed paper at all in NC. Only pre-cut wrap was foil. Items can vary by store, and even more by region.

Costco Low Carb/Paleo/Keto Shopping List

Meat, Fish, Eggs - any and all types you like, all OK if without sugar, fillers, sauces, etc.
Chicken Sausages like Aidell’s are LC and organic, no nitrate deli meats, imported salami, Organic partially grass-fed ground beef in 3 one pound packs, bison, grass-fed frozen patties and Aussie sirloin steak cooked sous vide…open and eat!
Wild caught Alaskan Salmon, in fresh, prepped, smoked, etc
Chicken thighs, whole chickens, Rotisserie Chicken $4.99 good sized (convenience tops any concerns about additives, also 2.5 pound vacuum packs of the same chicken off bones. Can make a huge chicken salad with it, so easy. Pulled Pork smoked with no sauce.
Filet Mignon, not cheap, but better price than most stores. Rib eyes, NY strip, etc.
Bacon! in rear cool cases. Love their thick-sliced bacon from Danish pork bellies, mostly pasture raised. Canned Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon, other canned fish you like, on shelves.

Fresh Vegetables, color peppers, cucumbers, grape tomatoes organic if possible
Organic box of Spring Mix, Spinach in bags, Romaine Lettuce (small artisan size makes great sandwich wraps) Kale Chopped Salad, make your own dressing, packet good for family. Asparagus, Green beans, Broccoli, any thing you like. Fruits, stick with berries only if can handle the sugar. Prepped veggies too, e.g. Mashed Cauliflower, baked Spaghetti Squash.

Packaged Foods. Artichoke hearts in jar, Sun dried tomatoes, other jarred veggies for a charcuterie platter. Olives, many kinds. Frozen Organic Cauliflower Rice and other frozen organic vegetables. Bone Broth in a box, Pacific organic brand or Costco regular broth.
Pasta Sauce - Nellos, 6g carbs, 4g net. organic, no sugar added, a Raleigh based company.
Whisps..Baked cheese crackers, just parma cheese (a snack chip but in crouton aisle). Recently added Moon Cheese too in snack packets.
Flaxseed Meal and Almond Flour if you do LC baking.
Huge Pink Himalayan Salt and Pepper grinders, and other spices IF you can use those amounts. Saigon Cinnamon. Trader Joe’s (TJ) has good pink salt and rainbow pepper grinders in table size, I move the bigger amounts to smaller grinder.

Healthy fats,
Kerry Gold Butter, 3 8oz. for 7.49, best price in town!
Coconut Oil Organic Virgin is in Huge jars (but I buy the smaller size at Trader Joes.)
Avocado Oil. Make mayo with this oil now, http://www.everydaymaven.com/2014/h...ake-mayonnaise/ Organic EVOO is excellent, a Costco favorite buy.

Dairy, any full-fat, no sugar or starch added, if dairy doesn't bother you.
Heavy Cream, Half and Half, Daisy Sour Cream and Cottage Cheese, Cream Cheese, shredded mozzarella.
All Imported cheeses, not US, are usually from grass-fed, pasture raised cows.
All kinds of cheese…for strong flavor, I like English Coastal Cheddar, Real Parma shredded (look for cheese origin seals), goat cheese (also cranberry one at holidays for a pretty platter), gouda, etc. Like TJs, Costco has many cheeses, and many imported are generally pasture raised, at good prices but in larger sized packages.
Pimento Cheese, aka as Palmetto Cheese at Costco (may only be a Southern region item, from Pawleys Island, regular and spicy, uses soybean oil mayo if an issue) Chunky Organic Guacamole, comes in 3 pack or smaller take along size. Fresh salsas/Pico de Gallo.

Nuts/Nut Butters, Paleo favors Almond Butter as peanut butter is a legume and can have mold, etc. Macadamias (not always in stock), almonds, walnuts, pecans, cashews etc. most any nut is good, check carbs. The large can of southern peanuts are excellent. Nuts in both baking aisle and front snack area.

Beverages/ Coffee - any. There is a strong roast Organic Signature blend from Charleston Coffee Roasters (maybe only a Southern region product). Grinder is located near tires after check-out. Also the Kirkland 3 pound ground Columbia coffee in a can is a very popular “best buy”. I buy smaller boxes and herbal teas at TJs.
Flavored Sparkling Water - only spring water, CO2 , flavor essence. Nothing with artificial sweeteners. Deer Park in half liter bottles with 4 flavor essence, Pellegrino, Perrier, brand varies. Always check for the extra “coupons” for buys on cases of these waters, etc.

Wine: Sign up for email for independent wine reviews at https://costcowineblog.com If you read about a wine you want to try, hop on it, like TJ’s some featured wines come and go.
Alcohol is not sold in the NC stores but is in 3 SC stores and one near DC. You can find independent reviews of that too.

Non-food. Gas! Books! June -July 2018 have four big stacks of Keto Books.
Paper products, Kirkland Laundry detergent, Vitamins (tons of them and OTC meds in huge bottles), Rental Car rates have beat all other reward clubs/deals we have, on-line contact lens less than the other discounter we had been using, keep watch on the monthly coupons for good deals… bought those new sharp ceramic knives and a set of pans for DD.

I mostly just buy nonperishable items from Costco. Last time I bought nuts, for example, most of them went rancid before I could finish them.

Nonperishable items:

Dishwasher liquid; Bleach; Toilet Paper; Paper Towels; Laundry Detergent; Flea meds for cat; Trash bags; Wax Paper; Picnic supplies (paper plates, cutlery, napkins, cups); books (discounted); car detailing products (shop rags, wax); Brita filters; Clothing - sometimes you can find things - I got thermal underwear there - loved it; gasoline; you can also get tires!; lower prices on eyeglasses;

Food Items:

Cheese ('cuz you can cut that 2 LB block in half and freeze some); Butter (ditto); Cream (If I'm going to be making ice cream); Cream cheese (if I'm going to be making cheesecake); Eggs (cuz I eat a lot of 'em); Coconut Oil; Avocado Oil; Almond Flour - if you can use the quantity; Sometimes veggies - I like those mini sweet peppers; mushrooms; onions; Flowers; Lemon Juice ("Italian Volcano") - comes in a liter sized bottle - keep in the fridge; Vinegar...

Wow, another fan of Costco thermal underwear. I knew we were twins. So soft, and for us where it gets cold but not bitterly so, with little snow, a just right layer under regular clothes. And it is a great deal for the cat flea med.

I freeze all nuts, take out a small amount to let any moisture evaporate, then store in air-tight jars. Also freeze most of the nut flours because LC baking is a rare event in my house.

The photo I was trying to post ...The book table at Costco...four stacks of Keto Books...Keto Living Day by Day, Keto for Life, Keto Made Easy, and Cravable Keto...plus The Whole Smith’s (that's Whole 30, grain and sugar free), balanced out by one stack of sugar-filled Magnolia Table.
Keto Cookbook Craziness.

Oh, and important for anyone considering if a membership is worthwhile ..will we go enough to use it if store is X miles away?

Costco now offers Two Day Delivery Nationwide for non-perishables. And if you are in certain Metropolitan areas, they offer Delivery via Insta-Cart.

Yes, twins!

Delivery!! Good to know.

I just went to Costco yesterday because I was out of a lot of household goods...and subtly prompted by this thread. I don't know if it was the heat, or because it was the middle of the day in the middle of the week, but I had NO PROBLEM finding a parking space, and there were NO CRAZED DRIVERS circling in their cars. Whew!

Costco took their Polish Dog special out and left only the Hot Dog... why, oh why? That Polish Dog is much tastier. They still sell it in the refrigerated section. I would go into Costo just for that dog if I was in the neighborhood. I mean, a Dog and a beverage for $1.50, can't beat that. Well, anyway, I was told they removed the Polish because they were trying to make the hot food offerings healthier. The new "healthier" offering is a "Ranchero Salad" topped with...soy protein. The Vegan Mafia strikes again!

The only food items I got were the “economy size” package of nori snacks, a bag of mini peppers, and a SMALL goat cheese (brie). Probably the smallest item on sale there. I didn’t have to buy multiples, either.

I also got two new Keto cookbooks: “Craveable Keto” by Kendra D. Holley (of “Peace, Love & Low Carb” blog) (37% off!) and “Easy Keto Desserts” by Carolyn Ketchum (of “All Day I Dream About Food” fame) (40% off!). I told myself months ago that I wasn’t going to buy any more cookbooks for now… but I saw them and I wanted them… I constantly refer to their websites for this, that or the other, these authors deserve my support… yeah, yeah, that’s my justification, and I’m sticking to it.

Plus there’s some really great looking recipes in both books. Remember refrigerator cookies? These logs are kept in the freezer, so you can slice and bake a few cookies at a time. So psyched. That recipe is in “Easy Keto Desserts”.

I just went to the Casco link just for fun and went to the Olive Garden Italian dressing just to see what it was. The first ingredient was soy oil and the third ingredient was high fructose corn syrup.

I have noticed if you shop between the day one cycle of "members coupons" ends and the next cycle (a Thurs) begins, it seems fewer people are in the store. And related to this....do not shop that first Thursday of the new coupon offers. Made that mistake once, crazy making, Costco will not run out of 'stuff'. Though sometimes all sizes and colors of clothes are not in stock, I have ordered athletic gear on-line, easy, shipping included.
Mid-afternoon, 2-3 pm time, also tends to be quiet in this Uber-suburb area.

Meme, Costco has all those popular packaged goods, but the Organic EVOO and Avocado Oil (a liter..this is a real bargain) too. Still see carts filled with huge cereal boxes, cookie and soda...a mixed customer base when it comes to health awareness for sure. They just seem to have more organic items than other warehouses. Our store has an avocado mayo but it is so easy to make my own.

I have never had that Polish Hot Dog but loyal Costco fans are going crazy over this change to remove it in favor of a vegan burger and salad. The news has filtered to me through LC social media with a libertarian bent...where I read this and the We Work boss announcing he would only provide vegetarian meals. Also heard the replacement at Costco is expensive and tastes gross (from same LC page) so maybe the market will self-correct and the Polish sausage come back. I need to try it if still in the food court.

Just a note on some things I do or like.

I buy several Kerry Gold butters at a time, as well as large cheeses and put them in the freezer. They freeze beautifully. You can cut up the cheese and rewrap it first. I always put the butter or cheese in freezer bags for extra protection. You can also buy freezer bags on sale frequently at Costco.

I often freeze these for long periods of time. Thaw in refrigerator. After being frozen, most cheeses will be more crumbly when being sliced or shredded so keep that in mind.

I don't like the taste of some grass-fed ground beef, but I love the ground bison.

Slowly working my way through this thread.

I do the same thing as Janet with the bags of nuts. Works great.

I have loved Costco for a long time and still do, but just recently switched to Members Mark toilet paper. (Sam's Club).

The Kirkland brand feels so coarse now and it used to be super super great.

Thank you, Susan. Took me a while to figure out timing, but now I buy paper goods when there is a member coupon for exactly the brand wanted, net cost is close to Kirkland brand. The packages are so large they last until the next time a "coupon" rolls around.

-Guacamole.

-Guacamole/Tomatillo salsa. (This is divine, my new favourite thing.)

-Prewashed/precut celery stalks.

-Pulled pork. (This is free of sugary bbq sauce and goes great with the guacamole/tomatillo salsa!)

-Parmesan Whisps. (Expensive, but the package goes a surprisingly long way and even small amounts are very satisfying.)

Yes, that pulled pork is very good! Quantity is an issue for me, though. Until I get a dedicated stand-alone freezer.

Parmesan Whisps: I just bought some of those!

I looked for the Guacamole/Tomatillo Salsa at Billy's advice on earlier TJ thread....another product that is not sold in my Costco, maybe it is a more Western region item? But we have two flavors of Pawley's Island Palmetto Cheese

The next cycle of Member Coupons starts Aug 9. I am stopping by today for mostly fresh vegetables but this list adds more, thanks.

Whisps come in other flavors now, at grocery stores in smaller bags. Costco now has moon cheese in the snack area...this is new to our store. Still expensive, almost $10 for a bag size similar to the Whisps, but I heard the mini-bag at Starbucks is $5?

Later edit:
A price package change! KerryGold Butter is now a 4 pack for $10.99. They must have checked my buying habits over the past year and upped it to a bigger size

Which reminds me, last year for about the month before Holidays, the three pack was on sale for about $5.70. Holidays brings in so many more Keto Friendly foods, more cheeses, more prepped "paleo" vegetables, etc.

A weird new bone broth in the dairy case next to the butter...I didn't buy it.

And my cranky old lady complaint of the day...not only were there hundreds of Halloween costumes, but holiday ribbons! I am Not Thinking of changing my wreath bow on July 31st when the heat index is over 100.
