Cool, so how about doing the measuring thing that measures your body fat versus muscle mass. Perhaps that will tell you that you are converting fat to muscle.

That makes sense, but in the context of losing weight versus exercising and building muscle, if you are converting fat to muscle it must be conceivable that you could end up heavier.
