Seems like Im going to revive this thread.

I am at a certain age...53...I have cellulite. I have a menopausal pooch. My boobs have experienced Newtons law of gravity. And yes...I guess I do have nerve enough to wear a bikini with ALL that going on...

I wanted to give you guys a heads up...I found an amazing bottom from Venus that covers my butt (no cheek), really does camo the menopausal pooch and got a that is the cutest bottom I've ever seen from my mom.

It comes in a lot of colors--I bought 3 of them to match some tops I have but no so comfortable in the bottoms anymore. So if you're looking for swim go visit Venus. BTW--I'm 5'5, 145 and took a size 10--it covered my butt (and I have a booty) nicely with out the cheek thing that everyone seems to love.

I didn't buy this color but I wanted to show the pic where you can where it up some (not so low) on the front.

I will have to join the minority that like tankini's. I had one that I thought looked pretty good on me.

But I applaud you ladies with the stones--err, ovaries?-- to wear a bikini!

No Canada locations, but they have online ordering.
Also, yes, very expensive.
However, they're highly recommended.

I went to a store when I lived in Atlanta. This was back when I was 150 lbs, and was asked...well, not asked but not-so-subtly encouraged to try elsewhere, because I was too small (definitely the only time that ever happend to me!).
I believe the sales lady's exact words were "You see we mainly cater to women who have large breasts."

Also, I agree, no one looks good in a tankini and they're terrible to swim in because they ride up. You might as well wear a regular bikini top anyway because all of the material is going to end up bunched in your boobs.

The thing about bikini tops with underwires not existing...where the heck are you shopping? Abercrombie? Justice? Baby Gap????
Even PacSun, Charlotte Russe, Victoria's Seceret, and all those other stores aimed at skinny and/or young people have bikini tops with underwires.

Oops, didn't realize this was an old tread.

Anyway, you guys are really making me think.

The last time I wore a bikini was when I was 4 years old.
Yes, I mean 4.
I bought one when I was 18. I got a light blue bikini top from Victoria's Secret and matched it with a pair of swim trunks from the men's section at Nordstroms. Trunks because I was too embarassed to wear a bra and panty set since I had visible cellulite even after weightloss.
In the end it was all for nought...the dressing room at Nordstroms was the only place I ever had it on because I felt too self-conscious to wear it in public.

True, yet really depressing story.

I wrote this in my journal...

Quote:
I did go to Hawaii and it was more than awesome, and I did wear bikinis the entire time and did not give my wobbly bits a second thought.

Yeah I did it and it was wonderful. And to be perfectly honest....there were a whole slew of people that looked worse than I did...IN bikinis...the reality of it...no one CARES.

Get your ovaries out of hiding and put on that two piece!!!

Lisa

I'm struggling with body image myself, now that I'm in a relationship. I keep telling myself that most women look as bad, if not worse and that confidence is as sexy as slim thighs.

A new relationship is the BEST weight loss plan!

I'm sure the men on this board can verify the sexiness of women who are confident about their bodies - at any size. It makes me so sad to see pretty, slender young girls criticizing and finding fault with their appearance: setting themselves up for a lifetime of "does this make me look fat" insecurities.

Self confidence is the best accessory! And just to weigh in, I'm a big fan of keeping the girls in place - IN a bikini. Its not cheap but Freya is my favorite.

Want to update that I did find a fabulous, supportive bikini since I posted this thread. I haven't worn it out on a huge crowded beach yet, but the time will come.

Good for you girls - I've worn a tankini in the past, but it was actually quite nice and looked good, but I just go for bikini's now.

My opinion is 'if you don't like the way I look in a bikini, don't look at me!'

I've owned both tankinis and bikinis my problem area is cellulite on back of thighs even when I was a teen (27 now) so even a one piece won't cut it I want to try a one piece with the sides cut out those are different!

gonwitwindo, I'm with you on the tankini - it looks better on me than any other style and includes underwires and adjustable straps. PLUS I don't have to entirely disrobe to pee!!
