I fell off the wagon pretty badly the first week or so until I got the hang of eating fat when I got hungry instead of lunging for carbs.

I have a question. 60 grams of fat is the recommended amount for the day but is that something I should go by or higher than that? Because today and yesterday I ate like 90 grams and feel really guilty...

Recommended by whom? Most of us here have more like twice that.

Go back and reread WereBear's first post where she explains that we NEED planty of fat. In fact trying to eat low carb and low fat (and 60 grams is indeed pretty low) is setting yourself up for failure.

So eat lots more fat and relax in the knowledge you are doing something good for yourself.

I'm struggling with this mindset big time.. I'm glad to hear that many of you eat over 100 grams per day.. This whole way of eating is so completely different from how I've eaten my entire life.. but I'm super desperate right now.. I'm also so relieved that the OP lost without exercising due to injury.. I am recovering from foot surgery and have not been active for 3 months due to the injury and stress fractures I had before the surgery.. OK.. off to make my protein shake for lunch with a bunch of added coconut oil!

I am new this this sight, I've lost 40lbs this year on LC diet. I am now in a stall. I would like to start adding more fat to my diet. My question is ..how do you know or measure how much fat you are getting in your diet if it not on a label. Like fresh meats, ribeyes, porkchops ect?

The high fat is working for me(12 lbs lost so far). But it seems unhealthy. I know I have to change my thinking. I love heavy whipping cream with coffee. Olive oil on salads and I could eat butter slices like candy. When I started this my triglyceride level was off the chart (400+). Anxious to see what they will be when I return to the doctor.

You can look up such information online, or track intake with My P.L.A.N. in the upper right corner.

Salad dressings, grilling with animal fats or coconut oil, or just adding butter to things are great ways to up the fat.

Brigitta (Brinethery), how many calories do you take in a day or do you even know? I love low carbing. I feel privledged to be eating this way and being able to lose weight, although I just started. That being said, I was a calorie counter before and I still keep track. Seeing the amount of calories I'm taking in a day scares me very much. Does it matter? I go to the gym but not on a certain schedule. Do you count calories or have any idea about how many you take in? I guess it matters how tall you are, current weight and how active you are too....? Thanks for your help!!

A tablespoon of olive oil has 14 grams of fat. 3 tablespoons in a shot glass. Either down it or pour it on foods.

I, too, used to use oatmeal. The one time I tried adding chia seed to my meatloaf, it didn't help at all in terms of moistness - but maybe this was because I didn't grind it first.

Blogger Andy Bellatti did some research on cooking with omega-3 fatty acids. He concludes that ground flax seeds can be successfully heated in the oven at very high temperatures, without degradation of the omega-3. But flax oil (like that which comes in a bottle) should never be heated.

He states that the omega-3 fatty acids in chia seeds will not be degraded by temperatures up to 350F.
