Default omega 3s

so... having read some about omega 3 problems... i am really worried. i have like no money, haha, and i say haha because i am trying to maintain humor in what seems to be a dire effing situation.

let me get this straight-- chicken and turkey are the worst? and eggs?

pork and beef are less bad?

fish... is it worth it to eat non sea-choice fish to get the omega benefits?

i'm in school and i'm like... i guess i should get a job now to pay for some sensible effing food and be super busy cause that would be better than having my brain get all effed up from this omega 6 crap.

to get an idea--is grain fed or finished whatever like 2x as expensive?

also... when i start lcing i ate two containers of mayo and i knew the oil was bad but i didn't know all the ways in which it was. i think my mental health has been worse since just b/c of that mayo. but actually its probably been worst b/c of all the grain fed animal products i've been eating.

what if i quit eating chicken, turkey but keep eating beef and pork and try to eat free range eggs? is pork worse than beef? is it worth it to eat the non-sea choice fish? what can i eat damnit... can i keep eating cheese?

if anyone has the time to give me any info or send me a ray of light to decrease my anxiety about this it would be so dearly appreciated.

Looking for info on HOW TO EAT A GOOD OMEGA DIET WITH LITTLE MONEY.

sincerely,
heirloom

I wouldn't sweat it too much. Most american's are eating salad dressing, deep-fried foods, and many other things with omega-6's and they're way out of balance. When you can, eat some fatty cold-water fish (salmon, sardines, herrings, etc). Avoid vegetable oils that are high in O-6 fatty acids.

Olive oil isn't bad. It just doesn't have any O3.

Only ostensibly though. Someone who eats low carb maybe eating just as much or more Omega 3 than the average american, because the animals they eat still contain a lot of Omega 3.

I didn't eat fried foods or any of those bad oils frequently before, and I didn't eat much meat, so I think it's safe to say at least I'm getting more Omega 3's now than before.

Sardines are a good source of omega 3s and they're cheap. If you get the ones which say "in vegetable oil", then drain off the oil. They are usually the cheapest. They are also a good source of natural calcium - the cheap ones, that is - because they tend to not be so well-filleted and you get a few little bones that you can eat.

I don't know if you have any halal butchers or anything Turkish/Armenian/Muslim markets nearby, but they usually sell lamb at a lower price than you would pay in a "regular" store. At least, that is the case here in Germany.

Lamb is yummy and if you get some cheaper cuts, you can use them for a stew of some kind.

They even had a whole lamb's head at the Turkish supermarket in the neighbouring town the last time I was there, but I was too chicken (forgive the pun) to buy it!!!

He's trying to avoid vegetable oil, so I wouldn't recommend that. Best to get them in water, IMHO.

those are interesting links! 'preciate it. now i posted a wanted ad on craigslist for deer meat haha, which seems probably unallowed ... but it would be so amazing if i met some credible hunter who would sell me that for -$. about the lamb head, i ate the eyeball or eyeball socket that was included... i'm proud. more anecdotes, that cooked head didn't smell good but oh well.

Hi Nancy, that's ok. FYI I just ate my first sardines and they were better than I expected. I thought that they would be harder... they felt like they were really good for me you know what I mean... they just had that sort of dense and satisfying this is good for you feeling. I wish the oceans and environment weren't so messed up so more seafood was available.

At least sardines are still very plentiful. They're not long lived fish either, so they don't absorb to much crud.

My favourite omega 3 rich fish is mackerel - far tastier than sardines imho, also comes in tins in brine or olive oil (avoiding the veg oil), and is yummy. Slightly more expensive than sardines though.

Isn't mackerel real fishy tasting? I've fed it to my cats and remembered it as smelling like FISH+++

Do you know if mackerel is very polluted? Apparently sardines aren't too bad for that. just wondering...
