Default Favorite low carb kitchen tool? I vote pastry cutter!

I forget how helpful my pastry cutter is when I'm being the good low-carb girl!

Today I used it to very quickly chop hard-boiled eggs for egg salad (and I didn't anything but it and the bowl dirty!

I also use it for:
  • smashing up avocados
  • mashing cauliflower
  • softening cream cheese/blending cheese

Does anyone have any other uses? Or any other favorite low carb kitchen gadgets?

I used to use my pastry cutter when cooking ground beef/chicken/turkey to make it nice and little pieces. Now I have the pampered chef tool for it which is awesome too.

I'm still lusting after a Vitamix but my Kitchen Aid blender (which I've had for 10 years will probably last another 10)

My top favs...

the julienne peeler for zuchinni pasta
blender
food processor

I think mine is:

Sous Vide equipment (controller, rice maker, foodsaver)
Kitchenaid stand-mixer
Food processor
Blender-ish things

I've got to get one of those fancy julienne peelers!

I only recently decided I wanted a pastry cutter when I have been making these biscuits with almond flour, but since then I've figured out how to do it better in my mixer, or with my hands. I usually use a fork for mashing stuff.

Ricer's are nice for mashing large quantities of stuff, like cauliflower. But I'd put it in the food processor. I think I even have a food mill somewhere.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOh...I want a food mill. I've had a bugger of a time finding one when I'm out and actually thinking to get it.

It looks like this, but much more cheaply made.

I love my old Tupperware "separate the white from the yolk" egg thingy -- was never great at tossing the gooey stuff from shell half to shell half.

My stick blender. I use it for making mashed cauliflower, homemade mayo, all sorts of stuff. Oh and you'd have to pry my cast iron pans and dutch oven out of my cold dead hands

I LOVE my julienne peeler too! Forgot about that one... it is so much fun to make zucchini pasta with it!

(on a sad note... all my zucchini plants rotted this year because we've been so hot and so wet... I'm having to rely on the farmer's market for this year's crop... and I can't grow them to the specific size I want....)

My blender. I am so not a cook and it has really made cooking a lot more bearable for me.

I have both a food mill and a ricer and believe me, neither of them work to chop cauliflower! It doesn't chop, it just smooshes. I use a pastry blender if I just have part of a head, or my food processor for a whole head or two. My stick blender died so I'm buying mayo and dressings until I replace it ... I really miss it!

Having said that, whatever tool/gadget I'm using right now is my favourite! I don't want to do without any of them (except maybe the ricer ... I can't figure out what it might be useful for unless I need to rice potatoes!)

As well as food processor, stick blender and coffee grinder (for grinding linseeds/flax seeds) I would add my egg boiler gadget which boils up to 7 eggs to whatever hardness without needing attention.

I wouldn't expect it to chop, but to mash instead. I've also used my mill to make berry sauce. *slurp* I think it was initially purchased for making mashed potatoes, but I don't do those any longer!
