Huh? I referred only to the fact that it clearly states that you MUST eat salad greens and vegetables. It is a rule of induction. It is clearly stated. I did not say you HAD to eat 20 grams. I posted the rule. I rarely eat 20 grams of carbs myself. I DO however, eat plenty of salad greens and vegetables, and have been losing quite well. This week alone, I have dropped about 7 inches from my chest, hips, waist and abdominal area. Whatever it is I am doing, it is working.

I do exactly the same myself, and while I am losing at a slower pace than most, I am still losing. There are days, however, that I choose not to eat the veggies for various reasons. My husband doesn't eat veg at all most days, and he is still losing also.

My main problem is getting enough calories, as I have a hard time reaching 20 carbs anyway. I enjoy being a carnivore...

With those kinds of stats, someone needs to get your name and number and interview you for the next book of miracles..

I guess maybe they do. Two inches in one spot, and inch in another, two in another... they add up my dear.

It's not cleaarly stated, not if you're paying attention to the words. If it had been clearly stated, there would've been no question. It's good though that you read it as you were supposed to (I presume ... Dr. Atkins isn't around for us to ask).

"If you're overweight, I have a very simple method for determining how many simple carbohydrates to include in your diet. Just follow these easy steps: Take a piece of paper. Take a pencil. Draw a large circle on the paper. Read the answer."

Dr. Robert C. Atkins

I'm no mind-reader, but I bet Dr Atkins would not balk at someone doing zero carb.

'simple carbohydrates'...

I believe the reason he never used the word 'MUST' is because every person is different and have their own dietary issues and requirements.

Imagine if we were all eating exactly 20grams of carbs per day? Some would lose, some would gain, and some would stall...

Use his information as a guide to find out what works for you. Ultimately you need to do what works for you to have true success.

Yes, "simple", but I just don't see him getting upset if someone went ZC.

And you are lovely!

Hi all, I agree firmly in individual differences.
Dr. A seemed to be very concerned about vitamins and minerals also, which I know can be a "war zone" issue when it comes to ZC. I in no way intend to argue this point for him.
In the 72 version he even listed what he consider necessary and required to follow his program.
You are both very correct, carb requirements seem to be a very individual thing, happy and healthy is what we are all aiming for.
Isn't it wonderful to take control of your life.
It will be very interesting to see what Che chooses, and how the journey evolves for her. It is wonderful that she has found such a diverse and helpful group. This site has a wealth of information and has made my journey both rewarding and motivating.
Have a great day all

Why, thank you, miss

A couple more I enjoy:

"It is often said of statistics that scientists use them like a drunk uses a lamp-post, for support rather than illumination."

Dr. Malcolm Kendrick

"The well-meaning contention that all ideas have equal merit seems to me little different from the disastrous contention that no ideas have any merit."

Carl Sagan

My, perhaps cynical, take on the difference in vegetable recommendations from DADR, DANDR, and atkins.com, is that Dr. A. got so much nasty opposition from the government agencies, that he felt he had to push vegetables to placate them. But of course, we'll never know.

lynys1980: your quote clearly states that you do not need any salad greens or other vegetables, only that *if* you do have any carbs, they mostly must be from salad greens or other vegetables. It's not a matter of interpretation, it's English. If you are reading it differently, I'd recommend taking a class in logic.
