Then I got thinking about other things that I ate when I was oh so young and dumb, like several slices of white bread and a can of chicken gravy. Not chicken, no veg, just gravy and bread. What was I thinking? Anyway I just wondered if there were things you used to eat that were horrible "food" even for the normal back then. Come on fess up, what did you eat?

Yup, I've done bread and gravy. Actually, it was a staple and something looked forward to whenever my mil made fried chicken. We'd all sit around and eat bread and gravy hours later after the meal.

Another odd favorite was peas on toast. I'd take a can of peas, cook them in a ton of butter on the stovetop, then butter white toast and spoon it on top.

I also have eaten the fries with gravy, and ketchup. I also remember bologna sandwiches with crushed chips in it. Done spg. sandwiches as well!

I'd sit and eat the puffy crust off from the leftover pizza, or everyone else's crust!

Of course, also did the banana and peanut butter sandwich, sometimes with marshmellow fluff on them as well.

OK these may be UK-specific so bear with me.

A whole can of Nestle condensed milk just eaten off a spoon (it's that stuff which is like pure sugar that you boil to get bannoffee pie topping). God that makes me sick just thinking about it!

Toasted white bread sandwich stuffed with spaghetti in tomato sauce, slab of melted cheese and worcester sauce. Actually, I'd probably still kill for one of those

Mayonaise and butter on white toast - everyone always thought that was weird.

Leftover mashed potatoes with mustard and sliced onion on white bread (as a sandwich)
peanut butter mixed with pancake syrup with whipped cream (out of a can) on top
double filet-o-fish with extra tarter sauce and a large fries dipped in chocolate milkshake (from McDonalds)

I am suprised I was still standing at all eating like this!!

A Miracle Whip sandwich was a staple at our house when I was a kid. So was egg noodles or macaroni with just butter.

And who could resist leftover mashed potatoes fried into a patty with processed cheese melted on top?

milk chocolate frosting right out of the can
whipped cream right out of the can (ahem. I did this last week.)
canned gravy on Triscuits
mayonnaise on Triscuits
oatmeal with butter and peanut butter and cherry syrup
pancakes with nuts and berries so they were healthy
ice cream with salted peanuts

I'm sure I had many more special treats like these. I still miss Triscuits.

At times in my past I ate a lot of very bad for me foods.
A favorite was leftover bread stuffing/dressing (from turkey dinner), made into a sandwich with white sourdough bread with lots of raspberry jam and marmalade.
slurpees with dollops of cool whip stirred in, corn syrup on white toast,
leftover noodles or white rice with tons of ketchup would be eaten on a regular basis too...

Yup, that frosting straight out of the can thing was familiar

A staple for me used to be white flour tortillas with butter.

Also once I remember eating a whole can of Funyuns straight when I got desperate for a snack.
