Are you saying you wouldn't be happier if you were richer?

Of course I would; I was just trying to be funny and enjoy my sweet lemons.

I love how it's categorized as "candy."

For some reason, when I clicked this topic, I said to myself: "There's probably been a little point of contention over Jack Lalane involving mineralman."

Looks like I was right.

I think this is the key. What if Atkins had died from a massive heart attack and had been 100 lbs overweight at the time? What would that prove? Unless we knew what he actually ate, it wouldn't prove anything. Someone can give excellent advice, but not follow it themselves. That may make them hypocrites, but it doesn't make the advice wrong. A convicted serial killer can say "Murder is wrong" and he is correct, in spite of his own misdeeds.

Maybe. Or maybe he's just genetically suited to longevity. One example doesn't prove anything, it can only be used to evangelize a particular WOL/WOE. Which is ultimately all a thread like this is good for, evangelism, not any actual facts.

"No sugar" may just as well be "less carbohydrate", though. Carbohydrate is either starch of sugar, and what is starch, but polymer'd sugar?

Which ultimately means, if what you're saying is accurate, that Jack is pretty close to what we're doing on this forum. (Not that I expect most people to have an understanding not involving the typical false dichotomy between effective carbohydrate and sugar.)

Perhaps he's found what works FOR HIM?

That lady who lived to be 122 in France smoked... you can't point to people with magical longevity genes and hold them up as an example of anything, other than the importance of picking the right parents.

There are different methods of curing tobacco. Flue-cured tobacco has sugar added. In the United States, cigarettes are produced using a combination of methods. In Britain, they only use the flue-curing method. In Europe, I think flue-curing is banned. William Dufty devotes a whole chapter to it in "Sugar Blues," and it made me wonder if our health concerns about tobacco are misdirected. I was reminded of this issue when a friend posted this quite bizarre article:

Just Say No....to Smarties? Faux Smoking Has Parents Fuming
