David Mendosa's review of the film Quite an interesting take on it. Interesting to read the first comment as well.

Great review! Glad to hear it shook up David a little. He tends to be a little too mainstream at times.

Default Big Mac Attack!

I saw this on the news, he lookes good and walks 10 miles a day:

54-year-old says OCD drove him to eat burgers [Big Mac's] nearly every day since 1972!

To Spurlock's credit, for all the blame he placed on McDonald's in "Super Size Me," he did include a sequence that featured Mr. Gorske.

Two all beef patties, special sauce ...

Has anyone found this video yet in rental stores like Hollywood or Blockbuster? I want to rent it, but I'm not sure it's out there yet. I don't ever buy DVD's - can't remember the last time I ever watched a movie more than once, so I've learned there's no point in me owning them (well, except for the House M.D. dvds - gotta have my House!! )

Default DVD availibility

Netflix ordered copies of "Fat Head," so it should be available any day now. Blockbuster is trying out the film at stores in Hawaii, according to my distributor, to see how it goes. Family Video is also test-marketing in in some stores.

The distributor also told me that Blockbuster and other chains actually track requests for films they don't carry, so if you call your video store and ask for the film, you will help nudge them into carrying it.

I can't say when region 2 DVDs will be available. For whatever reason, our foreign distributor seems more focused on selling TV rights at this point. Apparently the film will soon be aired in Poland and New Zealand. It's already been shown in Israel. Perhaps DVD releases will follow.

I think we should set up one of those dvd-swap things. I'm sure there are systems out there that keep track of good returners, good lenders, etc. Does anyone know of one? Anyone interested in joining something like that?

Frankly, if we got most people down to around 100 grams of carbs per day, it would be a huge improvemet. The average intake today is around 500 grams.

When you see the film, you'll see that I definitely zero in on sugar and starch as the cause of Metabolic Syndrome (I'm more worried about that than I am obesity per se) and rip the anti-fat campaigns of the past few decades.

Enjoy!

Producer, "Fat Head"

Tom,

Just watched it and am going to sit down again and watch it a second time this evening. Very enjoyable, entertaining, informative and funny all at the same time.

The only thing that bothered me was seeing one of those ridiculous hand held BF devices. Just a peeve of mine, sorry, but no way on earth you were 31% BF at your pre-diet checkup. I know that the accuracy of a method is not as important as being consistent in it's use (where people get into trouble when they measure by different methods), but still. As a thickish bodybuilder type, I can imagine what my reading would be!! I will stick to 7 site skinfold calipers testing thank you very much.

Sorry for the rant, good luck with the movie and thank you for spreading the word the way you have done. Between your movie and Gary Taubes book, people are starting to slowly get it!!

Hey, FenwayGuy --

I have my doubts about those hand-held models as well. I have one at home and it gives significantly different body-fat scores depending on whether you choose "normal" or "athlete" for the body type. If it's truly determining your body fat based on some magic electronic pulse, it shouldn't make any difference ... body fat is body fat, whether you're a jock or not.

Glad you enjoyed the film.

Best,
Tom
