Thumbs up Grateful for this thread

I've just read it over and picked up more tips as I went along.

After using fitday for a couple of weeks, a review of all the messages helped to 1. solidify what I learned the first time and 2. brush up on a few things I had either not understood initially or just did not remember reading.

One thing I had not remembered reading is that you can only write in the % of RDA for supplements, which turned out to be a good thing not to know, because after much computing back and forth adjusting the %, I finally got the number of mgs or units I wanted the nutrients report to show. As was suggested here earlier, I used a future date, then added 'supplements' as a new custom food with one calorie one (no need to add anything else to register it as a food).

Sometimes not knowing that 'it can't be done', you end up finding how it can be!

Many thanks for all the great tips

Now I'm on a quest to find 'how to' insert a link in a message and replace the address with, for example click here or whatever is appropriate.

A great labor/labour week-end to all!

Default Yes very helpful!

Thanks Doreen!

Love getting techy and having more than one way to do something!

And learning from boubous too, like I just did when I tried to delete a post and it didn't work on that thread - it said I'm not supposed to do that lol!

Hugs

Default Fitday.com

I am in my second week of Atkins and doing pretty good. I have been using the Atkins web site for journalling, but saw here that everyone seems to be using Fitday. I started using it today and was astonished by the amount of Carbs i was consuming. Then I realized that the site does not take into consideration the fiber. How can you guys use this site and get an accurate tabulation of your carbs for the day?

OK. So the fitday info looks something like this:

Total: 1832
Fat: 142 1281 66%
Sat: 52 471 24%
Poly: 7 61 3%
Mono: 31 283 15%
Carbs: 62 180 9%
Fiber: 17 0 0%
Protein: 114 458 24%
Alcohol: 1 10 1%

All you have to do is subtract the fiber count from the carb count to get the effective carb count. In the case above, it would be 45 grams.

Cool

Thanks Karen!

For some reason i wasn't getting what you gave me. It worked after I logged out and back in though.

Looking forward to coming to one of the dinners at the Fish House. Unfortunately, it won't be the next one.

BTW, This site has done wonders in getting me motivated and started on the Atkins WOL.

Thanks again so much for all of the great information!!

Default FitDay questions

I know! So many questions today!

I've had some problems manuvering thru Fitdays carb counter, but want to get a handle on it before I move into OWL since it seems you really have to measure well to track your carb level.

I just started to move my journal over from Atkins website and am wondering how or what works for those of you who use it. Since its very difficult to measure small amounts of thing (such as a tbls of mayonnaise, syrup or non-dairy creamer) do you just guesstimate?

If I put my foods in fora day and then figure the large items up at the end of the day (meats, veggies, etc) and just gues on the "condiments" how close am I actually getting to a real carb count?

I do find the daily percentages very helpful, though!

Any feedback would be great!

Default measuring?

Hi Lebette

I measure some things, other things I make a guess at. Meat, I make an estimate, since I don't have a scale. Lettuce? I never measure! Other veggies....I masure. ..especially the higher carb ones!

If I make a salad with lettuce, cucumber and tomatos, I put 1 cup for the lettuce, count the number of slices for cucumber, and usually figure a wedge for the tomato. Dressings, mayo, condiments, etc I always measure.

I use a set of plastic measuring spoons and a glass 1 cup measure. After a while I think I'll be able to "eyeball" it, but if you want to be accurate, you have to measure!

I don't really worry about it too much, since my carb count is pretty much on the low side!

You've done great Lebette! Good luck with OWL!

Default Reading labels...

Here's another one puzzling me:
The can weighs 185 grams net (Tuna chunks in oil)
Serving size is 62 grams
Approxiamate servings per can is TWO (which is about 124 grams by my reckoning - where's the other 61 grams - or is the balance in weight made up from the oil???)
How would you input the serving size into Fitday.com?
Toodles

Default Also....another questionabout protein

I read on a site that the average adult woman needs to consume between 50 & 60 grams protein/day.
Does this still hold true when doing Atkins - I've been inputting my daily meals into Fitday.com for a few days, here are the stats:
Day 1
Calories Eaten Today
Total: 1566
Fat: 122 1095 70%
Sat: 47 426 27%

Carbs: 10 39 3%
Fiber: 0 0 0%
Protein: 108 432 28%
Alcohol: 0 0 0

Day 2
Calories Eaten Today
source grams cals %total

Poly: 12 112 9%
Mono: 14 123 10%
Carbs: 9 35 3%
Fiber: 0 0 0%
Protein: 92 366 30%
Alcohol: 0 0 0%

Day 3 (Haven't had evening meal yet...)
Calories Eaten Today
Total: 1271

Carbs: 13 35 3%

PS - Don't forget I'm an ileostomate, so less fibre shouldn't be such an issue with me (I guess - this I DO know: the bag behaves better without it!)

Question How accurate if Fitday?

Could someone please help. I have been adding my food to fit day and I am not sure how accurate it is. It seems some of there carb counts are different than Dr. A's carb counting book. My totals are something like this: 66% fat, 3& carbs and 31%protein. Any advice would be great!! By the way, this is a FANTASTIC site and everyone is so helpful. Hopefully when I gain more knowledge I will be able to help other people.

Default Same thing

I was going through the same thing as you. Every where you look, it tells you something different. I go by the labels and make most of my own food. That's why. When you go out you don't know what your really eating, so how can fitday figure it out? I have a lil carb book, the one that came in my Atkins book and they have on-line ones that calculate them on atkins. It all depends on what type of food your looking up or eating it seems. If it is highly seasoned and with what is one example. Why don't you post your food on here too also. The experts here can help with anything. Have a great day. Hope it helps.

Amber
