IF as in intermittent fasting? why do so many people do that? seems counter productive to me if youre trying to loose weight

yeah... It helps reduce caloric intake (which, contrary to popular belief DOES matter even on a low-no carb diet) and apparently has some amazing health benefits. I've actually read the original study referenced in the popular literature. (I have access to JStor for peer reviewed articles in journals and such.) Dr Eades was also trumpetting IF until he decided to release a new book which makes no reference to IF.

Still not sure what I think of it for me...

Why do you believe it is counter productive to weight loss? I thought this at first with the whole "starvation mode" theory but apparently thats a load of croc...but even if it isn't - since I'm in a constant and even state of ketosis, my body can't just switch to fat storage - it has to release the fat - it has no choice in the matter lol

I thought it would be counter-productive since anabolism is maintained in cells when they are fuller. which requires some food all the time.
The whole 'prevent catabolism at any cost' is something that is engraved into me.
I can see how it would help along weight loss though, i'm not sure how much of the weight would be muscle and how much be fat.
As an aside, you should probably look into BCAA supplementation on your IF days to maintain muscle mass.

hmm... I heard that it takes 3 or 4 days of little protein for the body to turn to muscle tissues for energy... I don't know... I'm planning on going back to working out next week but I don't know how I feel about the AD anymore - I'm really starting to see carbs as "evil" lol... I'll google this bcaa thing and see what its all about.

Have you been to the Low Carb Grocery? http://www.thelowcarbgrocery.com/ Its in the GTA!!!! I just found out about it today.

I finally found macadamia nuts! I found them at
Ambrosia Natural Foods
55 Doncaster Avenue
Thornhill, ON L3T 1L7
(905) 881-7811
www.ambrosianaturalfoods.com

They have lots of great products there though I did find them pricey - 113g bags of macadamia nuts (not much at all) for $5. I got there as they were closing so I didn't get a chance to really see all their products and how suitable they are as a low carb natural supply store. I did see textured vegetable protein which vegetarian low carbers may appreciate...

Our health food stores often have macs in the bulk nut supply, though if they don't sell a high volume, I can see why they wouldn't want a bunch lying around getting stale. High oil content means shorter shelf life, big time.

Gabmal, you can't PM because you haven't posted enough (25 posts before you can PM).

Besides, Deb asked if you could post the link (here); I'm certainly interested as well...

ps: Deb, there's finally a version of that old simple biscuit recipe with liquid egg whites, would you believe it?!
