Not sure if this will show a direct link to Healthy recipes for slow cooker mini cookbook you can down load.

http://www.eatingwell.com/recipes/c...Winter#cookbook

I use my library all the time. Why not check out the cookbook's for slow cookers. Just watch the ingredients for what ever phase you are in. I'm sure you can get a lot of ideas about using different spices.

So no more "I'm hungry"...cuz if you follow this chart, you will not BE hungry!!

SBD Meal Plan Chart
How To Adapt Your Meal Plan- Phase I

The South Beach Diet? is designed so that you can easily swap meals and ingredients. If you don't like eggs for breakfast, have low-fat cottage cheese or lean meat instead. Not a fish lover? Then choose lean beef or poultry. In Phase 1 of the diet, you can eat as many proteins and vegetables as you like, plus fats like olive oil. Fruit and starches aren't allowed until Phase 2. Here's a look at some general eating guidelines. For specific food choices, check out the Phase 1 Foods to Enjoy & Avoid list.

BREAKFAST
Protein: Quantity is not limited. Start with a 2 oz. portion, eat slowly, go back for seconds if still hungry.

Vegetables: Minimum 1/2 cup or 6-8 oz. tomato or vegetable juice.

Fruit: None

Starch: None

Milk/Dairy: 2 cups allowed daily (including yogurt)

Fat: 1 tsp mayonnaise, trans-free margarine, or oil (optional)

SNACK
Snacks are required. Choose a protein, vegetable, fat-free plain yogurt, or nuts/seeds. A snack that combines protein (1 oz.) and vegetables is encouraged.

LUNCH
Protein: Quantity is not limited. Start with a 3 oz. portion, eat slowly, go back for seconds if still hungry.

Vegetables: Minimum 2 cups.
We encourage you to include a serving of beans (1/3-1/2 cup) as part of your vegetables.

Fruit: None

Starch: None

Milk/Dairy: 2 cups allowed daily (including yogurt)

Fat: 1 Tbsp mayonnaise, trans-free margarine or oil, or 2 Tbsp salad dressing

SNACK
Snacks are required. Choose a protein, vegetable, fat-free plain yogurt, or nuts/seeds. A snack that combines protein (1 oz.) and vegetables is encouraged.

DINNER
Protein: Quantity is not limited. Start with a 3 oz. portion, eat slowly, go back for seconds if still hungry.

Vegetables:Minimum 2 cups.
We encourage you to include a serving of beans (1/3-1/2 cup) as part of your vegetables.

Fruit: None

Starch: None

Milk/Dairy: 2 cups allowed daily (including yogurt)

Fat: 1 Tbsp mayonnaise, trans-free margarine or oil, or 2 Tbsp salad dressing

DESSERT / EVENING SNACK
Desserts are optional. Enjoy some of your Sweet Treat allowance, a dessert, or any of the snack choices.

SWEET TREATS
Sweet Treats are products that contain sugar alcohols. You can enjoy them throughout the day to satisfy your sweet tooth ? just limit yourself to roughly 75 calories worth per day to avoid any GI distress.
See a list of Sweet Treat options here

BEVERAGES
Diet, decaffeinated, sugar-free drinks are not limited. You can enjoy caffeinated coffee or diet sodas with caffeine added, but limit to 1 - 2 servings per day.

First of all, thanks for the thumbs up! Have been working hard this week to undo whatever happened last week, so I really appreciate the kind words.

Snacks are mandatory = good! I actually did know we had to have snacks but I was counting my latte as one (and since I put nuts in my yogurt, I thought I had to skip a snack to make up for it). I hope there is no more "I'm hungry," for sure.

Again, thank you!!

Diet Tip
The Secret to Satisfying Your Appetite (Hint: It's Not What You Think)
Lean protein is a core part of your meal plan on the South Beach Diet, and there's a good reason for that: Lean protein satisfies your hunger and keeps your blood sugar levels steady. Plus, lean protein allows you to maintain muscle mass while losing weight, which keeps your metabolism running at full speed. Cutting back on protein during weight loss, on the other hand, contributes to a loss of muscle mass and a slower metabolism.

When it comes to protein, the best choices include lean cuts of beef (such as eye of round), ground beef (sirloin, lean, and extra lean), tenderloin, top loin, and top round, as well as skinless turkey and chicken breast, pork loin and pork tenderloin, fish and shellfish, and tofu and soy-based meat alternatives. Protein sources that are high in saturated fat should be avoided. These include brisket, liver, rib steaks (like prime rib), chicken and turkey pieces with the skin (as well as dark meat), duck, and goose.

Alright I made the ricotta dessert with unsweetened cocoa powder, vanilla extract and splenda.. Now this is pure Vanilla extract I also saw imitation coconut and banana extract. Of course the nutrition info wasn't on the tiny box but my question is....... is there a difference as far as carbs? I really want to try the coconut extract... TIA

Turkey bacon = Jennie-O

Salad dressings ~ here's what I have in the fridge (and I invite comments on these):

Currently Using:
Newman's Own Olive Oil and Vinegar dressing (fat 4g, carbs 2g, sugar 1g)
Newman's Own Light Balsamic Vinaigrette (fat 4 g, carbs 2 g, sugar 1 g)

Have but Not Sure about:
Wishbone Salad Spritzers, Balsamic Breeze (Fat 1 g, carb 1 g, sugar 1 g)
Wishbone Salad Spritzers, Red Wine Mist (Fat 1 g, carb 1 g, sugar 1 g)
Love that these are 10 sprays per serving BUT the 4th ingredient is HFCS--and Judy said it should be the 5th ingredient or higher--so actually am not sure these are good choices! I haven't used them since starting SBD but I would like to if y'all think they are ok.

ps: Judy, thanks for that link! I put in my email. We'll see if they send me anything!

Ok, now that I have a new favorite dish, aka oven-roasted veggies (right out of the SB book), I have become aware that some people recommend not cooking with olive oil bc it's dangerous at high heat.

Some websites say you shouldn't, some say it's ok so I'm confused! http://www.oliveoilsource.com/cooking_olive_oil.htm

What about using PAM sprays instead? They seem more chemically to me but...?

Any thoughts?

End Deprivation! Banish Hunger Now
Which foods help you lose weight without feeling hungry? Bonus: They'll improve your health, too. Get the answer here!

Diet Tip
Banish Hunger Now
The South Beach Diet has always been a fiber-rich plan, designed to encourage plenty of high-fiber foods, such as legumes, whole grains, and fruits and vegetables. Why the emphasis on fiber? A high-fiber diet can help normalize your blood sugar levels, improve your cholesterol levels, regulate digestion, and help keep you from feeling hungry, which aids in weight loss.

"Fiber plays an important role in long-term health," says Dr. Arthur Agatston, preventive cardiologist and author of the bestselling South Beach Diet and South Beach Heart Program, "but as a society, we don't consume nearly enough. According to some statistics, Americans only eat between 12 and 17 grams per day when they should be getting 25 to 30 grams per day."

There are two forms of fiber – soluble and insoluble – and it's important to consume both types for good health. Soluble fiber helps regulate blood sugar levels by delaying the absorption of glucose in your bloodstream. It also improves cholesterol levels by reducing the absorption of cholesterol in the bloodstream. Insoluble fiber promotes regularity. Most foods contain both types of fiber, but oats, nuts, beans, and fruit contain predominately soluble fiber, while whole grains and vegetables contain more insoluble fiber.

Fortunately, if you're eating the South Beach Diet way, you don't need to count fiber grams or worry about whether you're meeting your fiber needs. The program was doctor-designed to ensure that you reap the benefits of a fiber-rich meal plan.

For roasting veggies, I'd use olive oil and not worry a bit. I used to sautee with it too but recently switched to high heat canola oil for that.

I am 22 and have literally exhausted all my options for dieting/exercising techniques...even went to the doctor recently to get my thyroid/blood sugar etc. checked just because i have been dealing with fatigue and C-IBS and losing weight has been SO hard for me...literally, a pound is a huge struggle for me and has been for years now...anyway, after my boyfriend suggested the sbd, i became interested and we started full force january 21 of this year......i have to say i was actually excited about this diet/lifestyle change and welcoming the benefits i hoped i would reap.

so, i just want to take the time to point out the things that have been better at only a little over a week into phase 1 (although my weight loss has stopped, i have lost 5.5lbs already and was told i was right on target---yay!):

i have more energy waking up and throughout the day
i actually enjoy exercise more now...who knew
i have tried foods/vegetables i never dreamed of trying (and LOVE them!)
my stomach feels flatter, my ibs symptoms have decreased
my face has more "glow"
my nails are actually growing...and i have NEVER been able to grow nails
my clothes fit more comfortably
AND the "muffin tops" (you know, the dreaded pooch hanging over the side of your jeans) are noticeably disappearing!

i cant wait to see whats next!

for the first time in a long time, weight loss and a healthy life seems more unlike a distant dream and more like a goal within near grasp!---AND this forum has already helped me out ALOT....i absolutely love it <3 and i LOVE this diet....although i dearly miss chocolate.....i think i was almost dreaming about it the first couple of days, but i fixed that craving with NAS FF fudgesicles...yummmm
