I don't think it is totally necessary to go to the health food store. I bought some from vitamin world, that I also saw for sale (cheaper) at WalMart & it is great. Just make sure it is 'extra virgin'. It smells & tastes great & I cook with it daily. This is the brand that I am using.

Hello from the CO poster boy. I'm sorry to hear about your sensitivity/allergy to the oil, and I wonder if it's due to the quality of the oil and impurities, rather the CO itself. I get the unrefined, centrifuged variety from Wilderness Family Naturals. It's a lot better tasting, milder, and effective than even the stuff I got at health stores.

By effective, I mean stopping my body from reacting to my own sweat with rashes, stopping my eczema, treating warts (really!), softening the elephant skin on my elbows, enabling all my skin to retain water better, and so on.

Make sure to get your CO in glass containers, not unlined plastic jars. Oils and plastic are electrically non-polar, meaning they will leach into each other, unless the container is lined. I checked with Wilderness Family Naturals, and they receive their shipments in plastic barrels with a food-grade lining, so there's no leaching. I don't know why anybody sells oils in unlined plastic containers, but that's a topic for another discussion.

I cook with CO all the time but I had never heard this stuff about it helping you out of a stall. This is very interesting.

I read that you were supposed to replace the other fats in your diet with CO, rather than eat this in addition to the fats you are already consuming. Is this right? I know that when I did start eating with CO it co-incided with a stall - although this could have been caused by a number of things i.e. the CO, the usual stall after induction loss, the flax 'cereal' I was eating. It has made me too scared to try CO again though!

I eat CO along with other fats especially butter. I use a mixture of both when I make collard greens.

True that, but the rash was not related to the coconut oil.

The LuAnn CO is bleached and refined. Its really no better than using Crisco!

Bleached? CO is already white so I'm not buying that its bleached.

Refined? Yes -- it does have the esters removed that give coconut its characteristic taste.

Refine coconut oil = Crisco? Hardly. Completely different substances, metabolized in different ways.
