I think we may have a similar debate about the nightshades. I've been wanting to eliminate them for a while, so while I wouldn't exclude them (except potatoes) I might personally try to eliminate them during the experiment, just to see what happens.

Yeah, that's what I intend to do too. Just curious to see if it makes me feel more kittenish.

Are we going to do this at the same time? Or just whenever it works out in our own schedule? I'd think the later since a whole week of very disciplined eating could be hard to schedule for people with active social lives and out-of-town visitors.

Oh! Here's something I should ask about... garlic and onions? They're not nighthshades are they?

It starts with coconuts and ends in twinkies! OK, it probably doesn't, but it's a good slogan.

Nancy, garlic and onions are alliums (lily family) so you're safe.

Another thought cropped up, maybe we can put together some menus to help us prepare mentally?

Joining...

and I am going to eliminate nightshades as well, since they are my favorite veg group and I crave them/eat them all the time, so they're probably f**king me up somehow.

Are we starting whenever? Because I just made coconut muffins and almond flour cocoa cake TOM told me to. I want to do this though, bc something has been screwing with my bowels lately, I suspect diet soda (with sucralose and ace-k).

Might be the coconut flour, it gets to me if I overdo it.

Haven't had it recently, til this evening. The only thing different in my eating has been diet pop, a consistent one-a-day intake. Crapdammit.

I was drinking one diet soda a day too and it started to make my face hurt. Isn't that odd? I think I've developed some sort of reaction to artificial sweetener! Oh well, it will just give me incentive.

TOM is a sneaky bastard. He told me to eat a funnel cake the other day.

True about the farmer's market but ours is small and doesn't have fruit or nuts, just veggies.
I have another question about green beans. I know they are a legume but the seeds are not mature and my kids tend to pick them and eat them raw so would they count as a paleo food?

I'm considering joining you guys in this. Since I'm eating IF 20/4 I only need to work out one meal a day so I should be able to make that paleo. I really need to get rid of dairy anyway.

But with no oil I'm a little concerned about how I'm going to go with cooking things. Was there an answer to whether meat fat (eg chicken fat, beef fat) was acceptable for cooking purposes?

Emma

I would say why not? Inuit and other aboriginal cultures have been using rendered animal fat for eating/lamps etc for...okay I don't know how long but I betcha LONG.

I would have thought it was OK. It's intrinsic to the animal rather than processed.
