How can you tell if stored coconut oil is "bad"? I had some for over a year without refrigeration. Just found it on a top shelf!

When I had my cholesterol tested it was 193 and my LDL was pretty high. They wanted to put me on Lipitor but I heard that it stops weight loss. Any other suggestions besides the coconut oil?

I just went to this website and I am convinced now!

MissMary,

I recently ordered 1 gal. of Nutiva Organic Extra Virgin C.O. and they said the shelf like was 2 years! I thought that was impressive.

Can't say my energy is rising, but it does stave off the hunger pangs. I didn't have it in my morning coffee yesterday and was famished in a couple hours....so today I remembered to add it at breakfast, and lunch. Really helped. At lunch I made cinnamon coffee, put in the co and splenda....was so rich and satisfying.

I just recently tried to make a "dessert" with it based on some recipe concepts I'd seen...I melted it and added in some cocoa powder and some cream...some Davinci syrup. I still need to tweak it, but it had potential, especially if I let it cool and harden. Some people also cook savory food with it. I haven't done that. I'm still more inclined to keep trying sweeter things with it. Next up might be a protein shake!

I've fried eggs in it...but usually just use it in my coffee. Do you drink tea? Might be good in that, especially some of the herb teas..

Remember, coconut milk and coconut meat are also important to use. Have you considered making hot cocoa with coconut milk and bakers chocolate. You can also make great fruit smoothies with the milk. I use on can of coconut mik and a cup of mixed lc berries, vanilla and whey protein ( opt. )

By consuming a mixture of these products can give you quite a coconut boost in various ways. You can also gain benefits of coconut oil by using it topically as a moisturizer. It is absorbed by the skin and can have some internal advantages.

I was just thinking, with all this coffee to use the coconut oil in--are we allowed to drink decaf coffee more so than regular? I was thinking that we shouldn't drink too much coffee, but lately, I've been having 3-4 cups of decaf a day. And, those aren't little tea cups, they are regular sized mugs.

I drink only (instant) decaf, but not everyday. On rare occasions I'll have two or three cups of decaf a day. Personally I think it's fine but that's not based on anything other than the fact that caffeine is NOT good for me ...
