My brother and I made this without the cheese and sourcream, we cant have dairy =( and it was still really great!! We made it with ground turkey and fat free hotdogs....so it was a REALLY lean meal...so we didnt feel bad with the extra portions. =) YUMMY!

Cool

First of all, this is one of my favorite recipes...Very delish! I have made it a few times, and have fine tuned it a bit to our taste...I think that cooking the chili at least an hour on very low heat, helps with enriching the flavor..I add more chili and cumin and a bit of oregano and garlic, because we like our food spicy...I use the "Williams" chili packet, as it appears to have less carbs than the other mixes...Now this next step that I do, no is not a time saver, but really makes the difference in taste...I actually grill on the Foreman, the whole split hotdogs, (Kosher being best), and THEN I slice them and actually add them to the chili after the chili has cooked for an hour..BTW...You may have to add more water to the chili to cook it that long, but you can adjust your seasonings...Oh, and I like my chili to taste more like a sloppy joe type of mixture, so I do add a bit of Splenda and a dash of LC Catsup...I then heat it through..I do not cook it with the cheese on top, because I have found that it taste more delicious with shredded cheese on the top after it comes out of the oven...makes it taste more like an actual "chili dog"...We like it best with the shredded Mexi cheese, a bit of shredded onion, sugar-free pickle relish, and ballpark mustard on top...YUMSVILLE!

This was so good. I made it and the whole family really liked it. I'll definitely be making this again. DH & our boys had theirs on hot dog buns. I was happy that I didn't have to make 2 dinners, one for them & one for me.

Made it last night. I used 2 lbs ground beef and added one small onion (chopped). I used one small can of tomato sauce but the chili seasoning was very hard to dissolve, it was turning into more of a paste. So I added the ground beef and it just didnt seem like enough sauce. I added one more can of tomato sauce then threw it in the oven. While that was in I cut up the dogs and pan fried 'em then added them to the oven mix and topped with cheese. it was awesome and 2 lbs made alot. I figured with the extra sauce I was about 8 NC for 1/8 recipe and 10 NC for 1/6. It was delicious. A little high in carbs the way I did it but not bad considering it was plenty of food all on it's own and I wouldnt be adding any veggies or anything to it. Hubby liked it too (on a bun).

Hey All,

I just made this again, only this time I made it with ground turkey and turkey franks and I did what Rabbit did and let simmer for about 45 minutes or so and it was much better I thought, spice wise. I loved it with the turkey, you really cant tell much difference.

This sounds good. Can't wait to give it a try. But I can't think of a good reason to use store-bought chili seasoning (don't they all have sugar?). You can just use chili powder. That's all my hubby puts in his AWARD-WINNING chili!

I came here to get the recipe again, made it for dinner tonight.

Elle, thanks for the idea. Next time I will make my own chili mix w/ chili powder, cumin, garlic salt, onion powder...my packet of chili mix didn't have sugar but it did have wheat flour. I'm assuming to help make the chili thick. The taco seasoning I have in my cupboard does have sugar.

Wow - what a unique looking dish!

I'll try this next week when my family is in town visiting (better to cook a big dish like this for several people, not just me!)
