Default "something" Principle - starts with "P"

Hi. I was watching a TV show a week ago on celebrity diets - one came up that included essential fatty acids - salmon, olive oil and such - JLo and Beyonce really like it because it's improved their skin and all over feel very healthy. Of course as soon as the show was over I forgot the name of the plan, would anyone know it - I'd be interested in reading up on it.

The Perricone Prescription, perhaps? His "anti-wrinkle" diet is based on omega-3's from salmon and other fatty fish, and monos from olive oil and nuts like almonds and walnuts ... and elimination of all refined sugar and flour.

Apparently, he has another newer book out, called the Perricone Promise. Don't know much about that one though.

I'm not sure now (I knew I should have written it down) The Pritikin Principle is low fat, I'm pretty sure what they were talking about was Low Carb.

Here's a link to his "3-Day Miracle Face Lift" diet .. http://www.nvperriconemd.com/3-day-diet.html

I tired it last summer, for a whole week actually .. and I have to admit my skin did feel softer and less dry, less blotchy. I got sick of salmon pretty quick though ... and it has to be specifically wild-caught pacific red salmon. The farmed stuff and pink varieties aren't suitable. So, it can be expensive to stick with for the long haul.

I just looked at the 3-day diet, I think I'd get sick of that much salmon also, I noted the "specific" salmon also - I spend enough on groceries as it is. Thanks again.

I have the Prescription book. It recommended salmon (everyday), berries, cantaloupe, oatmeal, veggies, olive oil. I found it very difficult to follow. The meal selection got very boring. Also, my pocket book didn't really like paying for salmon all the time. I do enjoy the canned stuff but I don't think that's preferred. I think the stars do it before a big event because the Omega fatty acids treat inflammation.

You're right, I forgot about that. I *think* it's okay as long as you use low-sodium type, because the diet is low salt.

(low-sodium canned salmon = barf-o-rama!!)

Can you just buy your own fresh and cook it yourself? I love it grilled with butter and salt/pepper and onions...nothing else...just a hassel to get the grill all fired up to do it!

The plan suggests buying fresh.

Wild Alaskan Salmon is far superior to farm-raised salmon.

Where in the world do you buy that? I don't think I've ever seen it around. I just bought 5 cans of salmon yesterday at Kroger because it was on sale. The fresh salmon is great but I was spending a lot of money on it weekly. I did notice that my puffy face went down, but I think it was more about weight loss. My face isn't as puffy now that I'm on Atkins either.

Not sure where you're located, but here in my region (Ontario, Canada) both Gold Seal and Clover Leaf brand have canned wild-caught Alaskan red sockeye in regular and low-sodium. The low-sodium version is just salmon, nothing else. Even the salted one is just salmon and salt. There's no water added. They stuff the fresh fillet in the can, seal it, then cook it. Any "water" in the can is just the natural juice from the fish. I give it to my cats

Vikki is right though, if you're doing the Perricone diet, fresh/frozen is preferred over canned.

Just as an aside, canned tuna is also available no-salt added. For whatever reason, I like it just fine. I think it's the texture .. tuna is firmer, whereas the no-salt salmon seems really mushy. Yuckko.

Dorren, here in BC we can buy a huge fresh frozen salmon for under 5 bucks ......
what about you?
I stuff mine with onions and lemon wedges and bbq them.........it is so good.
I took a look at this 3 day diet and i think is looks good.I love the fruits they call for and maybe just adding more salmon is a good idea to my diet.

My friend goes to Cosco and buys a whole salmon, not sure whether it's an Alaskan one, but it's a more inexpensive way to have fresh salmon, rather than buying individual filets at a time. I couldn't go that route though, I have to have my salmon clean and absolutely no skin showing or I won't eat it, so I'm stuck buying it the expensive way from Dominion or Loblaws.
