What other antidepressants have you tried? Prozac in higher dosages 60mg a day and above has been known to suppress appetite as well as treat the underlying depression.

thankyou, well, the dr. thought paxil would help me so I wasnt so tired.....lol

well, some days I feel good, other days I dont, I dont know. if you have ever battled with depression, then you know....

it is not what some people think.......there are some that dont have a clue, they think you just feel sorry for yourself.

I did try prozac years ago, it made me awfully hungry and made me gain weight...i think they all do, I dont know.

thankyou for your concern , I will talk to the dr. about it
soon. I may have to try a different doctor.

Hi. I was on Paxil and I loved it. I always felt happy and calm when I was taking it. The only problem was that it made me tired, so I had to discontinue it because it was affecting my school performance. I had no problems discontinuing it, and I weaned off of it by slowly cut the doses in half. I now take St. John's Wort, which helps a little. I still get the blues and everyday I feel a bit down, but not as bad as if I were'nt on anything at all. I'm thinking about starting an exercise program soon, because I know this is supposed to help too.

HI Everyone
Gina posted in my journal today and I would like to stop and offer my support to all that post in this thread.
I was just recently diagnosed as Bi-Polar. It was something that I did not believe. I know that I have bouts of Depression and I am very moody but I did not believe that it was nothing more than that, moodiness.
Well, my doctor precribed a medication called SYMBYAX and I will tell you, this stuff has worked wonders for me, and last night my brother said that he thought whatever I was precribed was a miracle drug because my moods and my attitude has totally changed!
I believe that some of what I am going through is caused from menopause, but I have always pretty much been this way. I can be happy one minute and in the same day go from happy to either mad or crying for no reason. The least little thing can set me off. I am pretty much now at an even level, and that has not happened to me in years!
I am raising 3 small children all girls, ages 10, 8 and 5. Two are my grand-daughter and one is a neice. I don't have the patience that I once had with children and this medication has even helped with that! We all seem to be a little more patient and it just gets better every day!
I am thrilled that the Symbyax is working, and so much that I don't ever want to be taken off of the stuff for a long time to come.
I wish you all well, and if you have these bouts that I have discribed maybe you can ask your doctor about the Symbyax. It really does help.
GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL, AND HAVE A GREAT DAY!
Anyone that would like to talk or anyone that needs help feel free to go to my journal and post. I have big shoulders and always love to help people to work out their problems or just vent and talk.
Also you can PM me anytime.
Good Luck to you Gina.(((HUGS)))
Brenda

Hello again Brenda,

I am happy that you found something to help.

It sounds like you have many responsibilities. I've had much trauma in my life and I think this has added to my depression. I really think having a support system or a significant other in my life would help me tremendously.

have a wonderful day everyone! Gina

The clinical depression I have is from a very tramatic situation (i.e.cancer). It really threw me and I haven't gotten out from under it since. The drs said that is what caused my depression. I'm sure others have had something tramatic happen to them, hence the depression. I was told this type of depression can/should be treated with meds.

I have read that withdrawing from paxil, or any antidepressant is tough and you should not quit cold turkey. When you are depressed it is hard to see a way out. No less to have the energy to attack the problem. It is hard to change. Trying to stretch into a new unfamiliar territory (new pills, new doctor, new job, new life, whatever) is anxiety provoking, which may cause you to try and defeat the change up front by telling yourself "it will never work"...or other self defeating behavior. This circle buried me in my own quicksand of misery for years. But if you don't try, you keep the same hot flame of misery next to your heart.

Sometimes you just must stumble forward to change. Life will make you fall, but you must have the courage to get up and stumble again.

Joe

I sure hope cutting down on sugar helps me feel better.....I really think most of my being "down" is living in this town, no friends or family.

Have a wonderful week everyone!!!

I dont feel that depressed when I can eat..........

help!!!!!

I mean when my stomach feels full, I feel better, I am sure we all do, but I am having a difficult time doing this again.

I can't stand the thought of eating sausage or bacon....

or even eggs, I can eat them, but not all of the time.
