Default Has your cholesterol actually gone down?

Just curious if anyone has actually experienced this? Not that I don't believe you or anything. I just want some real honest opinions on this subject in light of the recent lawsuit. I am starting Atkins because I was to get healthy. So any input would be great!

My overall cholesterol went down a fraction but my triglycerides went down 25%. My arthritis and sore joints virtually disappeared, my depression disappeared, my energy and libido came back, to name just a few of the positive changes, and I am a hellava lot happier.

I don't know if my cholesterol went down because I never got bloodwork done pre-LC, but I just got blood work back last week. My HDL is 44 and my LDL is 90, which are both good numbers from what I hear. I don't know why my triglycerides are but I plan on asking today when I go in for my physical.

My cholesterol & triglycerides went down and my Total/HDL ration is down in the "below average risk" category. Hurray!

My LDL and triglycerides initially went way down. Then last time I got tested my LDL went up, but so did my HDL (slightly), and the triglycerides stayed low. My LDL is still too high. But I have a chronic genetic problem, which is at least partly not controllable through diet.

I did not get blood work done pre low-carbing, but my total is 204, HDL 77, LDL 119, triglycerides 37. So although I can't say my cholesterol went down, I am certain this woe has done me no harm.

Well, the total went up, but it is due to the increase in HDL (the good type). Look at my signature.

The same thing happened with me. I asked for a copy of my results and he said that "the total looks a bit high, but not to worry because the ratio is so excellent." So I didn't worry.

Cholesterol: My GP said that the LDL number was "calculated"
and would look high, but the REAL thing to look at is the RATIO.

. HDL: 1.98 (0.90 -> 2.40 mmo1/L is desirable range)
. LDL Calc. 3.91 (2.0 -> 3.40 is mmo1/L is desirable range)
BUT RATIO = Total Chol / HDL
. . . . 3.15 !!!!!

Less than 3.50 = BELOW AVERAGE RISK for coronary heart disease
. . . 3.5 - 5.00 = average risk
. . . 5.00 - 10.00 = above average risk

Triglycerides: 0.74 ( less than 2.30 mmo1/L is desirable range)

I don't know what happened with me because I neglected to have any bloodwork before the diet. But, the reason I felt comfortable with doing this diet is because the American Heart Association did a study on this diet where they discovered that overal lipids improved with this diet. I just took for granted, because of this study, that my results would be good. Well anyway, I have had bloodwork done twice in the 1 1/2 years that I have been doing this. As of December my HDL=77 LDL=59 triglycerides=59 glucose=98

I am very leary about this news of the lawsuit.Why aren't health officials falling all over themselves to make restrictions on this diet like they did with ephedra? I have heard two different amounts of money that the victim is seeking ( $15,000.00 and $28,000.00 ). What kind of lawsuit money is that?!? That will be just enough to pay all dem lawyers. Why is this even getting any press? I think it is BS.

Despite my family of 'thin' people, I am one of the few who is NOT on any cholesterol meds. My cholesterol went from 199 last year to 172 just last month, all HDL/LDL & triglycerides all improved dramatically since I started LC in April. I also have always had low-blood pressure, and LC has reduced it further, so that's good too.

Its okay if your cholsetrol went up. First relax. Then ask your doctor for the subtypes of your ldl. My ldl is high but i got my ldl fractinaed and most of the ldl was lipoprotien A, wich can prevent heart disease and other diseases and is benefiacal form protecting against heart attacks. So please ask your doctor to get subtypes of your ldl
