Thumbs up ~~LC Picnic - Saturday 10th July - St James Park~~

At our last London low carb get together we agreed that our next event would be a picnic on Saturday 10th July in St James Park.

This would be open to all to come and go as they pleased. We would meet from 12 noon onwards and, weather permitting will probably stay around till 5 or 6 pm. I am looking to add a map to this post to try to give a point to where would be a good place to meet - not far from the toilets and I think a cafe, in case we want hot drinks. See below.

An opportunity to bring your children as well, so no baby sitting worries. Please indicate your general interest below. If it is wet we aim to meet in the new cafe.

Here is a link to the St James's Park website. You can see that there is a small map which you can enlarge by clicking the link. I suggest we meet near the Inn the Park, the new cafe, but nearer the lake, using the road in from Horse Guards Avenue.

There is a brass band playing on that day and of course you could come to see the changing of the guard at 11 am in Horse Guards Parade and 11 30 am at Buckingham Palace. Westminster and Charing Cross are the nearest tubes, but you could also walk from Victoria. A bus to Whitehall would get you even nearer.

I look forward to seeing old friends again and meeting some new members of this forum.

Here is a link to the earlier thread, with photo.

I'm in, but you knew that already

However, I did a recce of the cafe this week and I'm sorry to report that it is extremely expensive, at least for food That said, it's a reasonably short walk from the Park to the Yates' Pub at Leicester Square, so if the weather lets us down we could maybe adjourn there instead and indulge in their short but good low carb menu?

I thought it seemed to good to be true . Enjoy it.

This sounds like a lot of fun. Would love to be there (barring unforeseen circumstances that is). Have a pleasant day everyone. Yates sounds like a good idea, have been meaning to try my local one but haven't made it so far!

I'd love to go, but I live in Swansea! I knew I should have stayed in Northampton...

Depending on funds and work, I may shell out for the coach/train. It would be nice to get out of this place for a change and meet some of you!

Oh where are we meeting exactly? Don't want to walk the whole park just to find you all.

Thanks!

Good point, AFWife

I suggest - subject to other peoples' views - the following meeting point.

Opposite horse-guards parade, there is a war memorial in the park. Facing the memorial from horse-guards, to your left is the lake. Between the memorial and the lake is a triangular patch of grass. I suggest we meet there as it's relatively easy to find and the toilets are nearby As is the new cafe/restaurant, but as I said earlier that is terribly expensive

The war memorial is about equi-distant from Westminster, St James' Park and Charing Cross tube stations, depending which way you walk. If you go the the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace first, it's about a 20 minute walk from the other end of the Park, ie horse-guards is directly at the opposite end of the park to the Palace - it's a lovely walk from one to the other if it's not raining

As for in case of torrential rain, maybe we should agree a different rendez-vous in Trafalgar Square (eg on the steps of St Martin-in-the-Fields?) prior to descending on Yates in Leicester Square to try their low-carb menu?
