I got it during induction too, but I think it was because of food poisoning to tell the truth. I took some pepto and it cleared it up by the next day.

The bathroom dance is caused by the severe increase in fat ingestion! It takes a few days for your poor liver/gallbladder to relearn how to metabolize fat properly and at first just dump it! Then as you get rid of your glucogen reserves your body will learn to convert the fat to feed your body and burn your reserve fat as fuel. It is a great system, but takes time to get used to.

Hey, induction does that to me. It's actually how I know I've entered ketosis. Lasts approx two weeks and I feel like a bag of garbage while I'm dealing with it. In my case, I think it's a sort of detox from eating processed foods and fast foods to eating fresh meats and veggies. Keep on and you'll get through it...All I eat is meat, cheese, veggies.
fyi, I started 6 March and it's been about ten days of "bathroom issues" with each meal.

I had this both times I did induction. The first time I just chalked it up to my body getting rid of the cumulative garbage I had packed into my body for the past 20 years. The second time was after a 3 month tumble off the wagon, and just thought it was the same thing or my body adjusting. Keep on keepin' on, it will sort itself out.

Default Same experience for me

This is my second time on Atkins (my first time was very successful; lost 60+ lbs and kept it off for 3 yrs -- fell off the wagon on my honeymoon!), and both times I had diarrhea for the first week. Push through and don't give in! Just treat with Pepto and _lots_ of water. BTW, I've never had constipation on this diet; I'm unsure why, since it seems to be so common.

This is what happened to me. Those low carb replacement products are full of gluten because it is high in protein and very low in carbs. That really made my gut react and eventually I figured out I have a gluten intolerance and eating low carb products was the worst thing ever. I'd sit on the toilet 15 times a day with cramps. It was hideous.

Anyway, I'd suggest this might be a wakeup call. Read "Wheat Belly".

Also, watch out for sugar alcohols. Most of them used in low carb products can cause gastric issues.

Have you considered this: Nutritional supplements in the wake of wheat elimination

It's a little early to call it disrupted flora, but you may want to keep it in mind. In the mean time, up your salt and fluid intakes - broth is a good way to do this.

The original message was posted in 2004. I don't know why it has resurfaced, lol.

Me too. However, over the months I determined the solution:
1. No sugar alcohols, basically no manufactured sugar-free items.
2. 3 cups of green vegetables per day: broccoli, green beans, kale, spinach, celery. Never skip a day.

Good luck!

Old thread resurfaces a second time.

Dude, this can happen, though the opposite issue is more common. As others have noted in this thread...are you eating anything with sugar alcohols? Atkins bars, protein shakes, SF candy, etc? If so, stop. Get enough salt, 2 cups of broth a day is good mid-morning and afternoon. The bouillon cubes in hot water OK, a boxed broth a bit better.
And what are you eating? Your previous intro thread talked about not knowing what to eat, but if whatever you have been eating is a big change for your digestion (many more vegetables? Healthy fats?) it may be an adjustment phase. Have you added more than a small amount of coconut oil?
