Any graphics program will do it, like MS-Pain(t) and the like. Just change the image to fit 100x100 pixels size. I use and recommend this free software from:

What is the type of the icon? Try to save it as a jpeg or gif file.

is it just me or is it not possible to add a custom avatar right now? whenever i choose change avatar and am directed to the page with all the cute little avatars, there is no "custom avatar" option and on the bottom it says i can only change my profile picture.

hi Stephy,

Hmmm ... I'm sure I saw the option for custom avatar yesterday. Wa'il will check it out later today

hi Anne,

Wa'il remedied the custom avatar problem last night (er, this morning for you ). It should be working fine now.

There are two ways to call up the avatar screen .. from the avatar button at the bottom of the Options page in your user control panel (which is the same as before), and also there is now a separate Avatar button on the menu bar on your main control panel page.

You should see your current avatar pictured in the top panel, at the right. Below that is the list of forum avatars, then below that you should see the custom avatar options. Make sure the "yes" option is highlighted before you submit.

Note: the Profile Picture is not the same as an avatar. Profile Pics will show on your member profile page only.

hth,

Doreen

Yes, custom avatars should now be able to upload. There was another problem fixed this morning, so give it another try.

Doreen,

I am trying to change my Avatar. The custom pic from my computer is only 3.82 KB or 16, 384 bytes (I "clipped" a bit from a bigger picture) but I keep being told that the image is too large. What gives?

My original Avatar was 6.98 KB so I can't figure out what I am doing wrong.

I have also been having problems trying to attach pictures to my journal and gave up months ago as I kept being told that the images were too large.

PLEASE HELP

hi Bobbie,

Avatars are restricted to 20 kb file size and no more than 100 x 100 pixels. Must be jpg or gif file.

Attachments are restricted to 100 kb file size, and images can be no more than 400 x 400 pixels. Must be bmp doc gif jpe jpeg jpg pdf png psd txt zip file.

Jpg and gif files are the most "economical" for file size. If you're trying to attach a scanned photo, chances are that it's in bmp (bitmap) format which is typically a much larger file. Many photo editors are able to convert your pics to jpeg format.

Let me know if you're still having troubles ..
