Default Were You Excessively Hungry When New to LCing?

...and if so, for now long?

I have literally eaten 2100 calories today (F, 5'1" ), it isn't even dinner time yet and my jeans feel tight.

It is Day 2 for me of 30 g carbs/day (from vegetables). Was going to try 50 net but decided to switch to this. I seem to recall years ago when I tried LCing that I was seriously hungry the first few...days, maybe? I'm not sure. It's been so long.

I did a search, BTW, first for "starving" and then "hungry," and came up with no results. I skimmed a few pages of posts but didn't see this mentioned so I gave up and posted.

Excessively hungry? I don’t know, I was hungry and needed to eat and so I ate?Eat what you need.
maybe look up high calorie? There are a few threads.

I regularly ate 2200-2400 cals a day while losing the first 10-15 pounds. Even up to 3000 but not every day. Alcohol though....that stopped the train.

I’ve lost about 30 and at this point about 1700 -2000 cals seems to be the sweet spot. Mostly I find alcohol is the thing that makes the difference,
1700 including alcohol and I don’t lose. 2000 no alcohol, I lose.

I don’t actually count calories but the app I use does it automatically so I see it.

Hope this helps,,YMMV

Yes.

One of the things that stopped me from cutting further back on carbs was the hunger that followed.

Which I did solve by going near-Carnivore for a while. And I ate slabs of brisket and many link sausages and -- as I was told -- it did moderate and I now eat to appetite, which can be small.

The consensus is that it is the body seeking to get more of the foods with increased nutrition. When I eat more protein and fat, and it's a zero carb source like meat, I get satiated.

Dr. Atkins said it himself: "If you are hungry, EAT." And what wonderful words they were! MORE FAT and ENOUGH PROTEIN is what I discovered my body was really craving.

It might be different for you, but I would not worry about calories, just carbs, and feel free to eat enough of very low carb foods.

Plus SALT. Always get your salt and a magnesium supplement did wonders for me.

Thanks so much. I'm definitely getting plenty of salt now so thank you for that tip, WereBear.

This time around I also notice I am way hungrier than usual. I am also a lot more active right now that previous attempts at low carb, but definitely more hungry too.

I drink a glass of water, wait a half an hour, and if I'm still hungry eat something high fat like a couple fried eggs or handful of macadamia nuts. Sometimes I don't notice the hunger after drinking water or distracting myself, but if it's real I feed it.

You know, I'm a lot more active too and I didn't even think about it. In the past when I tried LC (several times) I was assuming I'd have LC flu so I remember taking it really easy, but these past few days I haven't been able to catch my breath. And OMG am I ever thirsty.

How long varies to get into ketosis. I use lots of fats, like broiled beef fat, to fill my plate and snack on when hungry. Also EVOO and lots of it on my salad or when sauteing vegies. Fat is your friend. Ya, i usually gain a bit at first, but its the fats thar keep me on track.

These days Ican jump into ketosis quickly. It wasnt always this easy. I have tons of lc recipes but honestly they kept staying in ketosis harder. A craving for sweets aleiviated by lc sweets just kept the monster alive. Better to eat another meal of meats or fats .

I eased into things slowly-started at 100g net carbs for a few days (previously I was eating 200+g a day, with a mostly plant based diet), then decreased that to 75 g, then 50ish, and after 3 months I'm now 10g-50g a day on average. Along with that I increased my fat intake-went for low fat everything to full fat/adding extra fats as much as possible. Doing things gradually, while also increasing my fat intake, has made it so I have NO hunger/significant reduction in appetite, it's been wild so far
