Default New here.. got diabetes?

Hey, I'm new. :] Currently 136lbs, lost 4lbs so far from atkins & hoping to get down to about 115/119lbs for my father's wedding come may. Don't panic - I'm petite! I'm 5ft 3 with a small body frame & have been this weight before & I look just right. Not too thin, not too large. I was wondering if anybody on this forum had diabetes type 1 - I do - & I was wondering whether the atkins/any other low carb diet had helped them control their blood sugars at all. I'd love to "buddy up" with anyone in this situation - it can be a bit of a job figuring out what levels of insulin & such to take on your own, & unlike others without diabetes, you can't go overboard with the food like atkins says you can.. even when staying under the 20g cut off! Although I am managing well so far & I'm very happy with the food i'm eating. I suffer with bulimia with a bad past of anorexic traits [according to my therapist i still have the anorexia mentality] but atkins is helping me control my eating both ways - i haven't starved, purged, manipulated insulin (i was recently in hospital for this and have been about 12 times the past year, for a few days each time) or binged since I started atkins.. it's a godsend! I feel emotionally stable for the first time in years - this ed has been with me since i was tweve years old and with a stable diet & intenstive CBT i'm hoping to kick this monster!

Or hey, even if you don't have diabetes, feel free to just post to say hi!

Welcome!! I was borderline diabetic before I started Atkins. Diabetes runs in my family, all members currently have type 2. Only my aunt is controling hers (badly) with her diet, but she will be on insulin before long.

Since starting Atkins, my blood sugar levels have gone right back to normal and now I'm totally in the clear! And my previously anti-atkins dr. is coming round to Atkins being a great way of life! I've lost 28lbs so far since October, my bs levels have evened out and my overall health has improved!

Yeah sure chatting would be great! You could email me if you liked?
Just out of interest; what doses of insulin are you on? Is your diabetes very well controlled?
