A few years back my brother got me into this "metabolic shift" diet that was basically 7 days of 20 carbs or less followed by one meal of "carb load". I did this diet twice and both times lost 17 lbs in a month. The problem was, I went mental, and turned into a total b*tch. I think it had to do with screwing with my blood sugar levels. I've been on straight Atkins for about 3 weeks and no problems with mood swings.

I have been having 1 CHEAT MEAL per week since I started this in OCT 04. Myself and my wife have whatever we want for our friday night dinner. Could be Pizza, Indian Take Out etc. I have lost over 30lbs and my wife over 20lbs this way. If it helps in the long run im not sure...but we are loosing and it keeps us sane knowing if we want a treat we can have it. We are very strict the rest of the week , and once the cheat meal (or hour) is over ..its back to LC'ing.

Works for us

I do this on occasion. Not really any set pattern but I plan to do it again at the end of March. My sons 1st birthday and I want cake. I have no problem going right back on plan the next day. I usually may gain a pound or two of water and it comes right back off. Sometimes I dont gain at all. As long as I dont overdo....

I did high carb cheat meals the first year I did Atkins but stopped after that. I no longer have a taste or desire for high carb foods or sugar.
