Default Corn

I know we should avoid eating sweet corn but does that also apply to the little baby ones. They're not as sweet.

It's not listed in the book (the one I have). What's the status of baby corn? Are they treated the same as regular sweet corn?

Its treated the same is any other corn...corn is corn.

Did you ask all the experts on the other SBD board?

Mostly lurk and post a little bit.

They push grains way too much for my liking....the meal plan guide says starch and they keep pushing grains....grains should be the last food to add after you try all the starchy veggies...IMHO!!!

They also think that turkey pepperoni is an OK food and I disagree...its highly processed and loaded with sodium!!

I know what you mean about the grains. But for me grains are more convenient then starchy veg for lunch.

Never heard of turkey pepperoni but don't much like processed meats anyway.

Interestingly, I remember when I was doing Atkins that, although sweet corn was a no-no, baby sweet corn was allowed because it was much lower in carbs.

Obviously we're talking about South Beach here, and not Atkins, but it might be worth finding out the GI of the baby corn. Ordinary sweet corn is 55, I would expect the GI of the baby corn to be much lower (though I might be wrong).

I know this and that's why I asked. I also happen to love baby corn. So it would be great if I could have it. I'll do a bit of research.

I read somewhere that corn (baby or otherwise) has a low GI. I also read that it isn't actually a baby version of the larger corn, it's a completely different plant!
