Default 4th Toronto LC Get-together, May 1st

Hi everyone!

So it sounds like we'll be meeting for lunch on Saturday, May first. We have so far decided on the Danforth in Toronto (east side of Bloor near Pape) for a yummy Greek meal! There are tons of places to go.. does anyone have a favourite?

I will definitely be there (of course, I have likely jinxed myself by saying that!!!)

Michele-67, chefmichel and mimi-chefmichel ...

Hummelda, does your Dh like Greek? Feel free to bring Shiela, too!

How about others... ?

Mary (Itty)

Thanks Mary -- my dh loves Greek -- it might be the only way I'll get him there! Don't know about Sheila -- I'll ask her tomorrow if she is interested!

Sounds great!! I'll be there. I haven't been to too many restaurants on the Danforth.

Looking forward to meeting/seeing everyone.

Happy Easter!

OHmygod! Chocolate Michelle, how does it taste? Do you just bake with it, or can one just sit down with a five pound slab and have your way with it...?

You know, I don't think I've ever been to Astoria. Sounds good, though, because I pass by it often enough on my way to and from work!

Great! So we have:

Michele
Michelle and maybe Mini Chef
Hummelda/ Louise and maybe Mr.
Red1
Mary

Tofi, will you be joining us, too ?

Anyone else hungry?

M

Default Kali Orexi!

Hi

I checked out some info on Astoria, which is at Chester and Danforth, 390 Danforth Ave. (east side of Bloor Street).

They have lots of meat, like lamb, beef, chicken and pork, plus calamari and octopus, plus probably some other fish, too. Lots of Kebobs (meat on a stick).
Hold the potatoes and rice, every dish is served with them! Lots of great hearty salads, too, with feta cheese and black olives.

Mary

PS Kali Orexi= Bon appetit!

I hate to tell all of you chocoholics that the Barry Callebaut chocolate that I buy is honest to goodness,'eat it right off of the block', melt in your mouth, Belgian chocolate.
It's called 'couverture' chocolate, which means that it has cocoa butter and is suitable for tempering and making truffles and I've done it many times.
The bad news is that it is very good and it's sugar free and it's full of maltitol.
when I first bough it I completely o'd on it but now I'm a bit better at self control.
I teach a course on how to work with chocolate ganache, truffles, fondues and pates and I use this chocolate for my low carb customers.
One day we should all get together and do this as a craft, maybe in the fall. Start with a pot luck and finish with a chocolate class. It would be a good 'celebration'.
For now just email me if you'd like some. I have a couple of kilos of each semi sweet, milk & white chocolate. It's $9/pound but you can just buy a couple of ounces if you'd like. I'll bring some to try.

Sounds yummy, chef!

I seem to have s *slight* ...*intolerance*... to maltitol. I would still love to have a chocolate party some time, though!

If you have a tiny bit of the chocolate, I would love to try some at our next get-to (just a $.99 bite for me, plz).

Thanks a ton! (or just a few ounces!)
Mary

Thanks for the offer, chefmichel. I'm trying to stay away from sugar alcohols, so I think I'll pass for now.

Looking forward to seeing everyone!!

Hi all,

It looks like Sheila and I will be coming -- at this point my dh won't be coming unless I can change his mind and lure him with Greek lamb and SF chocolate -- hmmm do you see a plot forming here?

Hummelda!

Good try with the dh, though!

It will be good to see Sheila again! I might have a friend who follows Schwartzbein (Suzanne Somers) who might be able to make lunch as well... But I don't know if she'll be able to get out of bed by noon!

Oh, hey Humm... I thought your name had something to do with a Humm that is just a little bit smaller than what's in the picture...
