Default a few newbie questions...

one of the hardest things for me to gt used to on this lc diet is trying to find something to drink ..... i was a big OJ & milk kind of guy ...... so what is the deal with aspartame ? everyone seems to be scared of it yet .......all these diet pops are no carbs with aspartame ........ also what about sugar free Jones soda ....... i have not seen any mention of that at all and it is sweetened with sucralose ..... seems to be pretty good ... no carbs .... no aspartame .....

also .... i ran out and bought a few bottles of the DaVinci SF syrups ..... aside from flavouring coffee ...... anyone have any other ideas to take advantage of this great tasting product ???

just like to thank everyone for posting all the great ideas , finding this forum has really helped me out .... so far so good

Well I can give you feedback on the aspartame. There is a lot of people in the medical community, who feel aspertame is harmful to you. Putting that aside (as there are many in the medical community who feel Low-Carb is bad for you), Atkins had found that Aspertame can stop wait loss. He had several patents that followed his diet to the "T", but were not loosing weight. When he removed aspertame, the weight loss started. So this is why you should avoid it. As for me I do my best, but have the occassional pop, when I am out.

As for Splenda drinks, there is not much available in BC. You can go to "Low Carb Solutions" in Delta, and they carry Diet Rite Cola, and also have Crystal Lite and Talking Rain. But it is all rather expensive. If you have a car, it is better to go to Bellingham, Costco in particular.

Also Costco in BC, has started carring talking rain again. They have several different brands, the one available in BC is carbonated, and called diet ICE (2g's carbs a bottle), I perfer the Botenical drink, which is more like a juice (similar to crystle lite)and is carb free.

Sorry can't comment on the DaVinci's as I have no idea what you are suppose to do with it.

You can make an Italian soda...ice cubes, soda water, syrup and a splash of cream.

I don't want to sound like your mother, but make sure that you're not sacrificing your water intake for sweetened drinks. You still have to drink water.

Hi Hardcarbs:

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your progress so far. Unless you are concerned about the health issues with aspartame (and I can't give any thoughts on that), I would go try it for a while and see if you are still losing weight. If you are not, try cutting it out and see if weight loss continues. Personally, I consume it all the time without problems. Good luck! mad
