Default any comparison between the 2 vitD tests?

Is there any comparison between the 2 vitD tests? I'd like to know if 49 on the 1,25(OH)D has a counterpart on the 25(OH)D test?

My doctor had the 1,25(OH)D test done Dec.2012 & it was 49 (range 32-72)

I wanted my levels to the top of the range of normal & I figured that if 40,000iu daily only gave me a result of 49 that I should increase the dosage. So I did a loading dose of 160,000iu & daily dose thereafter of 60,000 & my endo did the 25(OH)D March 5 2013 & it came up 202 - I feel no different & I had no pain.

I knew 25(OH)D also called 25 hydroxy is the better marker of overall D status but assumed they would be somewhat close in results.

I've been taking high levels of vit D3 for the past 3 years - it's the only thing that manages my muscle pain. I was in constant pain for 10 years before trying vitD.

Slight pain started a week later & it has progressed to becoming unbearable & waking me from sleep.

I wanted to wait til May for my next doctor appt & retesting but think that the pain relates to my level of deficiency.

2010 - 35,000iu a day for 17 days- 8000iu day for 36 days - 40,000iu a day for 10 days - 12,000iu thereafter
2011 - 12,000iu
2012 - 40,000 daily

Dec 2012 - tested vitD levels = 49 (range 32-72) (discovered wrong test in March)
levels need to be above 50 for body to use optimally/properly

have been doing over 40,000iu daily for over a year after reading about Dr. Joe Prendergast recommendation of 50,000iu daily
2013 incr level to 50,000iu daily (50,000-60,000)
1/21/2013 - added 100,000 (total 150,000 for one day)
3/05 retested with *correct* test - tested at 202 ng/mL

STOPPED supplementation 3/14/2013 (will be retested in may)

A little pain started 3/20 & is becoming unbearable 4/7/2013

The 1,25 test is just the wrong test to order. In fact it might be a good indication that your doctor isn't up to snuff.

The out-of-kilter 1,25 (OH)2 D volume is no surprise to lab directors who are finding that not all physicians know which test —25-OH-D or 1,25 (OH)2 D—is correct for determining overall vitamin D status. “Fifty percent of physicians are still confused about what is the appropriate test. Some clients order both and one comes back normal and the other’s not. Then they call me and ask, ‘what should I believe?’ and I have to explain the difference,” observed L.V. Rao, PhD, director of core laboratories and associate professor of pathology...
