I can only speak for me and I found sugar, stodgy carbs satisfying - not emotionally, but........... they were the same as cigarettes - I wanted one/them. Did I feel better afterwards??? No, so is that emotional???? Well I dont think so, it doesnt change my feelings on life or my level of "inner peace" I didnt notice getting highs and lows from carbs and I dont from ciggies lol. I just liked them and wanted more and more.

The problem is that humans are programmed to survive and therefore programmed to find and eat as much food as they can - in caveman days that was great, cos there wasnt an abundance around. Today - food is everywhere and we can exploit that instinct

depends on what you call a high?? carbs arent like alcohol and alter your mind, I liken them to cigarettes - I've just had one of those cos I wanted one (I didnt need it) its a habit. Do I feel better now I've had one??? No, not really. I've just satisfied the craving - If I couldnt have one when I wanted one - then I might get a bit grumpy (a known side effect of giving up smoking lol), so is that emotional???? Not in my opinion, thats an addiction and breaking addictions probably does create a certain tenseness???!!! But that passes.

I know the experts talk of sugar rushes and highs, but I think they're more subliminal to really be aware????? I just used to love the taste and wanted more and more

I think carbs are addictive - the result of satisfying that addiction isnt obvious as such - well it never was to me - have a think about it. How do you feel when you've had that much craved cake/chocolate.........???? Do others feel something good afterwards?? I used to feel full, but then guilty that I'd eaten them and then think "what the hell" and search for more!!! It didnt satisfy or comfort me

oh so the people that get emotionally satisyed from carbs are the ones that eat them and feel good afterwards, instead of guilty?

Maybe. And is it because historically we've often used food as a comfort - when children are hurt, mum may give them a cake as a treat - that sort of thing???

I used to want carbs cos I liked them - I'd see a bag of donuts and think - yummy, I'll have those and eat the whole lot, but I cant say I felt great afterwards????!!!

ahh that makes sense, so do you think if a person had that learnt behaviour from birth carbs = reward/treat, would they always be like that or can they change?

You can change - Lets face it, when has a cake solved a problem lol!!! All I know is that the reason I ate so many bad carbs is cos I loved the taste - nothing else!! I used to feel sad when I'd finish eating a cake cos it meant it had gone! So it was the taste for me
