Thank you so much! We (my husband and I) started this diet in October. I have seen a lot of benefits from this diet, but weight loss isn't really one of them (although my husband is losing, and this makes me happy).

This really, really, really helps, thank you!!

Zuleikaa!!!!

I am so excited I can barely type! When I was younger I would
always gain 10-20 pounds over the winter months and then slough it
off during the summer. VERY FRUSTRATING!!!

I was always depressed for Christmas and my birthday in January - by
Valentine's day I was usually starting to come out of my slump.

In the past 5 to 10 years - like clockwork - in September I am at the
dr's for one reason or another. AGH! By February I am craving sunshine and WARMTH!!!! Today I brought in the kerosene heater! I could NOT get warm!!!!
I'm better now!

Could this all be as simple as SAD? I know it's been a problem in the
past ... what I DID NOT relate it to was not losing weight/gaining weight/carb cravings, etc!

I cannot THANK YOU enough!!! I have cut out EVERYTHING I could think might be causing me to stall. Caffeine, fake foods, splenda, nuts. It just didn't make sense! I was cutting back in ways that before had brought weight loss!!!

So now I can just calm down. Stick with the program. And when my new DVD for Walk Away the Pounds gets here? I can increase to two miles and PRAY that the pounds start dropping again!!!

Thank you for this RAY OF HOPE!!!

Bea
*Looking forward to BEING WARM again!!!*

OMG... this is me too! Have not lost any weight since late november... except for during the 3 weeks I was in South Africa, when I dropped about 6 pounds!

I feel so much better now!

Adding to the voices of "me too". I was really really getting upset at being strict & it not showing any results. The past 2 weeks or so I have been absolutely exhausted (like do I need to hibernate or something?? )

I'm originally from Virginia and found myself outdoors more than I do here (even in the winter).

I feel relieved that I'm not an Atkins failure! Cheers for posting this.

I've started going to a tanning salon, it helps, but I still feel depressed/hungry all the time...craving carbs despite being on atkins induction for 2 months and hardly losing anything.

I am switching to CALP tomorrow...

It's reassuring to know I am not alone.

Thanks!

I thought it was appropriate to bump this up as SAD seems to be affecting people earlier this year. Too, maybe it will keep some people from going off plan during the holidays if they know what the consequenses will be before hand.

Also...there is now hope for us with vitamin D (D3) supplementation of 4,000 IU/day.

Info on vitamin D and A is here.

Thanks Zuleikaa!
That Vitamin D thing is interesting. I take a multi but it definitely does not come close to that dose of Vit.D...Do the A and D have to be taken together?

No, they don't, but most D has some A with it. You want to get D with only a small amount of A (hundreds not thousands) or none at all. It might be beneficial to take a small amount of calcium with the D.

Bumping this up.

You can start with 400 IU twice a day. Make sure to take it with calcium.

Vitamin D alleviates depression and carb cravings. Take 400-1600 IU per day accompanied by 1200 calcium and 600 magnesium divided into two daily doses.

Natural vitamin D (D3) from fish oil is NOT toxic!!! It's safety has been tested over 4 years at a dose of 50,000/day.

Great info - why 4,000 iu/day of D3 though? Would 1,000 be enough?

Thanks again for the info! :-)

4000 IUs is the amount of vitamin D your body needs to function well. Vitamin D can come from food sources as well as the sun so you'd rarely if ever, except some people in deepest winter, need 4000 IUs. I was on 4,000 in late December but wasn't on it for long.

The vitamin D needs of people are very individual and can vary widely due to latitude, ethnicity, heritage, and gender. Thus people should really get their D tested and supplement to achieve optimum levels.

However, that is why I suggested starting at 400 IU and working your way up. The 400 IU is the most common per pill/gel dose. We have conducted an experiment on vitamin D and posted in the Supplement forum. It's from that that we learned the wide range of requirements and reactions. We also found that the vitamin D in a multi was considered useless.
