Well, if you think thats strange enough, have any of you heard of the new LOW CARB WINES? Now that is going overboard if you ask me. I don't think low carbers are asking for low carb wines. And the funny part, it has the same amount of carbs as regular wine. They are just going to label it low carb.

http://www.usatoday.com/money/indus...carb-wine_x.htm

Thats how many carbs are in regular wine, did someone forget to count their carbs?

You watch, within a year, every single product that now exists will have a low-carb version. They may not necessarily BE low-carb, but with some fancy labeling, you can pretty much make anything low carb........

For example, a slice of bread has 15 carbs, no self-richteous low-carber would eat such a thing! But alas, if you change the SERVING size, it can 'appear' low carb. I saw in the store recently bread, but you look on the serving size, it states .0083 oz. What the heck is that? Is that a slice of bread? The corner of the bread? 2/3 of the bread? hmmmmmmmmmmm

Same thing with a recent stand in the grocery store, where I spot a hersheys' chocolate bar, it states in big letters 0 SUGAR CARBS! But upon further investigation, you can see that a serving (1/4 of the bar) has 16 Grams of Carbs! How many people do you think just saw the front and bought the thing?

Luckily WE here on the boards are all so smart and witty, we all know to research labels.

I must be in the distinct minority, but I like the Special K cereal, and while it doesn't fit into my carb count at present, when I hit maintenance, it'll be nice to eat a bowl of cereal without getting 40 grams of carbs in the process.

I say "Hello" to it as I pass it on by so it will not feel so left out. LOL.

Actually the low carb wine has about half the regular carb count. 1.6g for chardonnay(vs. 3g), and 1.9 for the merlot(vs. 4g). I'm actually looking for a couple of bottles of this stuff to try.
Before LC I drank a glass of wine several nights a week with dinner, since I started LC I've missed that. If it tastes good I'd be happier with 2carbs over 4carbs for a nice glass of Merlot. Though I wouldn't make it a habit until reaching goal. If it isn't so great I guess I'll just wait 'til goal and drink regular wine then.

=)

I think that some might be a little critical of anything that comes out on the market labeled low carb - surely like the post above and the one about the fact that they'd be happier eating half the amount of carbs in cereal - if it has lower carb count than normal (like the low carb tortillas everyone eats on here!!) then it can be counted and should be alowed to be labelled low carb. Alright, it might not have 0.6 grams of carbs - but that's nearly NO carbs, not LOW carbs!!
I just think that people who follow their own low carb diet - who might eat 50 g of carbs a day, are entitled to eat whatever they like as long as it's in their carb alowance, so why not eat some cereal?
Surely we haven't become so stuck up that we can't see some people might actually LIKE Cereal and prefer to eat it lower in carbs!
Isn't that why Atkins makes bread, pasta, cereal etc - so that we can eat it if we chose???? So what are we meant to do - just buy HIS products - no thanks - I think I prefer it if lower carb foods are becoming more available - it makes the over inflated prices of Atkins stuff seem rediculous - why pay $5 for a box of cereal when you can buy one for $2.50 ??

I think manufacturers are doing the right thing & not just merely jumping on the bandwaggon!
