Default Pregnancy update

Hi guys!
I am now 22 weeks and it looks like I will be induced at 38, if things keep going well (earlier if neccesary).

The baby is doing great and we are past the big hurdles (20 week anatomy scan, echocardiogram since i'm diabetic, etc...).

I lost about 9 pounds my first trimester (never had morning sickness -woohoo! But needed large dose of thyroid meds bc my already low functioning thyroid quit its job, which is common in pregnancy).

I have started gaining now and am 2 pounds shy of pregnancy weight, so I have a ways to go. But baby's growth is perfect- thank God. I am afraid of a baby being too big bc of my diabetes.

My first 2 A1cs were 5.7 and the last 6.0 so even though I did increase carbs to 100g per day (as Dr recommended to avoid ketosis but stay low carb right now).

Feeling sooooo tired but otherwise pretty well!

My eyes have had some changes but retina specialist isn't worried. It's common for T1Ds during pregnancy, even with great blood sugars, and typically resolved after I finish breast feeding.

I have some protein in my urine, but again this is typical for T1D.

My blood pressure has stayed low, so no preeclampsia so far.

I am so so so excited!

Love that you and baby doing well !!!!!

Yes, uncontrolled diabetes does make for bigger baby, especially the shoulders. In my two pregnancies, the doctor kept checking the size of the baby with special measuring. As I am physically larger than most women even if not over wt, he knew my babies could not be delivered other than c-section.

Oh that is great. Have you heard of the Brewer diet? That is what started me on low carb. The book is great to read.

Hi friends,
I have had a very dramatic week.
I had some abnormal labs then sudden high blood pressure (typically I have opposite problem- my BP is too low).
My OB was concerned enough about preeclampsia (I’m very high risk for it due to my diabetes) that he sent me to hospital. They were able to get me under control and let me come home on bed rest
I was so happy to be home with my husband and dog!
Yesterday was first follow up at my high risk OB and he was very very reassuring. He feels we can manage this with meds and monitoring. Thank God- I am just 27 weeks!
But we have to make some changes- nothing too hard- at home bp monitoring twice a day and logs, meds, and we are now inducing at 37 instead of 38 weeks. He does NOT believe baby will have to come sooner.
I do need protein supplements, as I am spilling loads of protein but this cant hurt baby. Only high bp can hurt my little one.
However, there is no way I can eat enough to keep up with needs while spilling so much (3-4 times the diagnostic level for preeclampsia, but that is just be I’m diabetic not bc of preeclampsia).:”don’t want you turn into a noodle, baby will take from you what baby needs.”

He thinks I’ll be let off bed rest sometime next week- yayyyy!!!
But this now means I start my work leave much sooner- planned to be right up to when baby was due (apr 2). Now it is March 6th.

Holy cr~p..... this whole pregnancy I have been very guarded that this is viable. After years of heartbreak my husband and I could not let ourselves be devestated yet again.
So we have bought nothing, done nothing.....and suddenly this baby is coming, really coming. And coming SOON!

If I suddenly disappear, I will be back. Things are obviously unpredictable right now.

But I wanted to thank you for all the support over such a difficult couple of years leading up to my pregnancy and throughout the 7 months I have made it into one.

Love,
Robin

What a bumpy ride. I hope you and baby keep on managing, and have a smoother trip the rest of the way. Best wishes to hubby, too.

All best wishes to the whole family, and you will be a family very soon. I can't think of any person who can better manage her own and baby's health.
